if a tv comes with an hdtv tuner, do i still need to get a high def box from my cable company?

It's when a magnet has created anomalies in the screen. I had this on a tv once because when I bought the thing used I put it in my trunk next to my JBL monster subwoofer and it caused the tv to have green & pink in certain areas of the screen.Originally posted by CWood2Also, I've heard the term "degausing", or even "demagnitizing" a TV...anything behind those terms that could assist me?
I read alot about it and basically a degausser can be bought for about $100 at radio shack and stores like it and it's like a circular object that you just hold in front of the tv. But you can also degauss your set by simply turning it on and off. Everytime you turn it on and off it does a small degaussing I read. Obviously you wouldn't want to sit there and turn the thing on and off though as that may create issues of its own.
As for my $20 used tv I bought, the green & pink did end up going away on it's own by just normal use of turning the tv off and on but it did take like 3 months I believe.
Have you noticed the spot getting any better? If it's getting any better you may just want to tolerate it, of course not to the point you let the problem go and your set goes out of warranty. 1) do you want to get more than just basic local channels in HD (like ESPN, HBO, etc)
2) do you even have the capacity where you live to get over the air HD signals. somewhere in this thread is a link (about 5 to 10 pages back) where you can put in your zip code to find out if you maybe can get the signals
so if you only want basic HD channels and you do get the over the air signals then you're set. if you want more than basic channels in HD and/or you can't get the over-the-air signals you gotta go thru the cable company and get a box. it's usually about $6 or $7 more a month unless you get HBO, showtime, that stuff already, some cable companies throw it in freeStreaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

How come crappy ABC "HD" broadcasts in 720p and Pro Logic? BLAH!
TNT was pimping 1080i and Dolby Digital during the playoffs. It was BEAUTIFUL!

I'm not a basketball fan so I didn't see any games, but typically ABC HD is much better than TNT for me. TNT is probably the worst HD channel I get.
They claim 720p is better for sports and 1080i is better for movies, but who knows? There are way too many variables involved.Comment

CBS for me looks great, but it cuts out at least 2 times in a 30 minute tv show. It's not the video that cuts out either. The audio will drop for 3-4 seconds and then come back. It's really annoying.Comment

Due to the HDTV Lag game thread now i'm wondering if I get the Samsung DLP should I be buying the 360-to-VGA cable or does anyone know if using the components is ok with turning off the DNIe setting and using the enhanced game mode?

ODogg - Component for my 360 connection. I have DNIe off, but my TV doesn't have a "game" mode. I can select game for the input, but I'm pretty sure that's just an input label as my TV is older than the one's you're researching.Comment

I think it's all a matter of native resolution. Since your DLP is 720p, those are the channels that look better. I just wish that they would output Dolby Digital. Why more HD channels don't output full 5.1 is beyond me.
