Hey ODogg, for the HDMI cables you said you need to get, you should check out www.monoprice.com. They have some for as low as $5, and they are excellent quality, and side by side I couldnt tell the difference between them and Monsters. They have all types of cables at very good prices, and they are all excellent quality. I have digital coax, optic, hdmi, and component from them and they all work very well with no problems at all.

Thanks, I'll check them out as I need to order another cable for my cable box. For the VGA cable to connect my PC to my new TV and for the HDMI cable for my upconverting DVD I ordered cables from www.cablesforless.com and I think it was like $15 for a 6 foot HDMI and $6 or $8 for the vga cable.

ODogg - You can get an extended warranty through a bunch of places. I got a 3 year extended warranty on my Samsung through Mack Warranty (www.mackcam.com). Cost a few hundred.....can't remember the exact number, but they cover a lot of different electronic equipment.
With that said, I'm not sure I'd get the warranty if I did it over again. Of course, if I didn't get it something would probably blowup after the initial warranty ran out. Always seems to happen that way.Comment

Well that's cool, i'll have to check that out. I know for a few people on here that was a major thing that may have stopped them from getting the Samsung from Vanns, which would mean spending like $400-$500 more to go to CC or BestBuy and that would be without an extended warranty from them, going this route those guys could buy through Vanns where I got (whenever they get em restocked, they said early July) and get the Warranty and still come out ahead probably $200+ cheaper.Originally posted by joebooODogg - You can get an extended warranty through a bunch of places. Has anybody heard anything about the new company Vizio that is being sold at Sam's Clubs? LCD and Plasma's, the 50" plasma is only $1999 and the 42" is only like $1,500.

It's 42' but I don't really care about an 8' difference.
How big of a decrease in picture quality will I get with this TV compared to the SXRD?

The more and more I think about it, I'm leaning towards just getting the cheaper version. The only thing that bothers me is that the cheaper line of Sony's only have 1 HDMI input, while the Samsung's have 2.

And Havok...the best bet is to look in-store at the LCD's and DLPs. For the 720p LCD's some can see the "screen door effect" (ability to see the pixel definition during live images) while DLP's have the "rainbow effect" (seeing flashes of color on high contrast light/dark scenes when moving your eyes). Check for those effects and then pick a technology. The new Sammy DLP's have fewer rainbows, and I had an HL-R series DLP and didn't notice them that often (however when I got the SXRD I realized I saw them more than I thought).
The HL-R DLP I had (720p native) also had gaming lag on PS2...not 360, due to the upconverting process for the displays native resolution. Again, Samsung has by most estimates fixed this in the HL-S series.
DLP's will also give you better color uniformity and black levels, but the SXRD trumps it overall (more accurate colors and grayscale which are fundamentally important).
Hope that makes a bit of sense. Even after you decide on a TV you'll still have to invest in a calibration DVD to fine tune your picture, if not spring for a full ISF. My suggestion is to view the different displays in store, change the user settings to Pro/Movie with "Warm" color temperature. This will give you an idea of "accurate" picture settings which you'll definately want in your home. The Vivid default in-store will blind you once you come home, not to mention the overly blue grayscale saturation and look (plus LOADS of artificial edge enhancement).

Thanks for the help. I hear ya on the hunt for the "perfect" set....i've done 3 hours of research today alone (a ton more the past few weeks). I'm still leaning toward getting the SXRD because it looked great to me at CC a few weeks back but i didn't really change any settings on the tv's that I looked at (also I didn't check out any HL-S'...only HL-R's) and the price is pretty large. 2. You need to contact Comcast and they'll bring a new Digital/HD box when you upgrade your service. As far as channels, not sure. It depends on what they offer in your area. You can check on their website by typing in your zip and looking at your local tv lineup. Stuff like the news and other local programming will likely not be broadcast in HD (at least it's not here). The national stuff on ABC/NBC/CBS/Fox will be (assuming Comcast offers all those stations in HD).Comment
