Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread

Stupid question about HDTVs, but I know nothing about them.

My brother just won an HDTV (a 42" Samsung HDTV, exact model I don't know). When he has it delivered, I'm sure he'd like to be able to play our PlayStation2 on it. Will I need to buy any special cables, beyond the standard Red/White/Yellow component cables, to A) hook up the PS2 to the HDTV, and B) see any improvement in picture quality? If so, can someone recommend me a brand of cables to buy?

    Thanks.

Yes you need component cables. Easily found at EB/Best Buy/Circuit City/etc.

How much are you paying extra a month for their services? All I know of is the five bucks extra for the box. Also, do they supply the component cables? Cause I've been calling them but they dont answer.

With my cable company it's $5 extra for everything (HD box and service). They have a regular package with about 10 HD stations and then a premium package with 4 extra HD stations for an extra $3 per month. Then there's HBO, Showtime, Cinemax in HD - those are viewable with a subscription to that channel (same as it was with standard TV).

When they came to install the box, they installed component cables as well. I took them off though as I wanted to use DVI from my cable box to my TV.

Of course all cable companies will differ so your best bet is to get through to them....if they ever pick up the phone.

I have direct tv so I don't know. Best thing is to just call them and ask. They should provide you component cables when they come out and hook it up for you.

Whats the cheapest, decent HDTV on the market.

Anyone with an Sony A2000 that has NBA 2k7... could you try playing a game online and see if you have any kind of motion blur? This is what is just driving me nuts about the Westinghouse LCD... the blur (out of focus image) when passing or shooting especially while playing online is just horrid.

Im probably looking at getting the 50" version of the A2000.

Just another type of interface. Here's a pic:

The different interfaces are often ranked in this manner (best from top to bottom):

                            1. HDMI
                            2. DVI
                            3. Component
                            4. Svideo
                            5. Composite

I currently have a 42" Westinghouse LCD which is going back to Crutchfield due to motion blur in many Xbox 360 games (especially bad in NBA 2k7 when passing or shooting). Im thinking of buying the A2000 for about $600 more. I notice motion blur very easily... any problems with that in any fast paced games? I had also heard some complaints over at AVS about motion blur while watching football games when panning.. hopefully it's just the bigger TV making people see the re-focus blur more easily when the ball is thrown. Hopefully no blur as this is a 2.5 ms rated set. Any other input regarding the TV? I notice the big brother (XBR2) is out but it's nearly 4k and doesn't seem to offer a whole lot more (1080p VGA, better SD) worth the extra $1500.
there is no motion blur with the SXRDs. I responded to your PM.

Anyone here own a fairly new Sharp Aquos. Lets say the 52" and the ones in between 27"-32" inches.

                                Are they normally good tvs?
                                Reliable?
Compared to Sony, how would you rate them?
