In the meantime, you could check some of the AV/Home Theater forums to get some suggestions for the best settings for your particular TV.

Thanks, there was a guy that had posted some settings at AVSForums that I need to take a look at. So much has to do with the lighting in the room also that professional calibration is the way to go from what I'm hearing.

you should have got a RP CRT for that matter, CRT's have the best black color, I hear so much prase on this set, I know the Nativ res is 1080i, but I hear nothing good about this set even on the AVS forums, and its 57". and the price is great.

            does he do in ny?

i wanna calibrate my tv but i think i have a bad set its hard to explain sometimes it looks great but sometimes i feel like its messed up cause the picture looks blurry a little and the dark colors have like a colorful noise in the background i dont know if it needs to be calibrated or if its a bad set

Right now, I would only buy a very high end LCD (like those Sony or Sammy's that are in the 3-4K range) or a CRT, so yes, I would buy the set you have listed over any set listed here in awhile. For gaming, nothing beats a CRT, and nothing will unless you are paying 3-4K

MJB said DLP's do blacks well, they do. LCD's don't.

Well I could have waited 7-9 months (can't recall exact date of my tv purchase) and paid $1200 less for my set too but then that is always the case, if you wait, stuff goes down in price, but while you're waiting you're not enjoying it either.

oh ok, anyway EG I was going to maybe get the 50" samung DLP 720p native, since this is cheaper and is a bigger set, you think this is the better buy? I know the PS3 will play on it for sure.

If you have a PS3 why in the heck would you buy that TV when, for a couple or few hundred more, you could have 1080p?

to be honest, my set right now is not 1080p and the PS3 still looks great on it, and I really can't see the big difference anywho, I saw 1080p and 720p and 1080i and I just dont really see that big of a difference. I looking at the size my freind, you aint getting no 1080p 57" for $1199.

Well you may not see a difference now but you may down the road, these consoles are still in their infancy. As for the pricing, I was going by the difference in the 5086 and 5087 which is like $200-$300. So I wasn't pricing 57" sets. I can't imagine there'd be a huge difference though as you scale up.

I just want a TV for gaming, I love watching my sports and nothing is going to be broadcasting in 1080p for quite some time, so I kinda feel it will be a waste right now.

At the same time, so is 1080P, and in 2-3 years, there will be a 10X better set at 1080P than there is now.
