I just look at it like this, if you're already shelling out $1000+ might as well spend a few hundred more and have the very best, you are set for a long time. No need to worry about a year down the road some 1080p game or movie or whatnot coming out and you going, oh crap, i gotta get a new set now. Like candyman had that issue. I always try to avoid that.

It's not I want the best, it's usually a personal call on whether it's worth it. When I bought my tv it was like $400 less I believe to not get 1080p, but when I was already spending $2500 or so, I said, it's worth it to get the best. But if the 1080p set had been $3500 instead of $2900 I would have gotten the 720p set for $2500, I couldn't justify that much more cash. So yeah it's a judgement call.

No because a DLP has very good PQ IMO for the size that it is. I really didn't want something that heavy and bulky.

I think you read my quote wrong. I think DLP's do black VERY good. It's why I chose a DLP over an LCD. I'm very happy with the black level on my DLP.

The only complaint I ever had with my DLP is the clarity in dark scenes. I had trouble making out images in the background, but after it was calibrated, I can.

As for the pricing, I was going by the difference in the 5086 and 5087 which is like $200-$300. So I wasn't pricing 57" sets. I can't imagine there'd be a huge difference though as you scale up.
Football, I bought the 5087W for $1499 from Circuit City when they were selling it for $1899. You really need to know how to talk to these people since they want your sale and you can walk away with a steal.

When I bought the RPTV almost 4 years ago, it was one of the best at the time. I didn't expect it to not wk w/ the PS3, so that led me to upgrade sooner than I thought. My benefits now, even though this is 50" like the RP, it's more than 1/2 the size all around on the RP, 720P, 1080P, no burn-in, HDMI, Digital Optical Output, VGA, and DVI that my other TV never had. It's worth it.

This thing is so light that I carried it myself, no more bulk..

I have the same complaint, the black level is good compared to the 2 LCD's here at home.

You have to walk into the store and tell them that you are going to buy all the games they have. Then come on OS and use your wife as a front.

Seriously, I had Circuit City price match ABT Electronics from here in IL and I bought the 5087W for $1499 when they were selling it for $1899. The thing was that I was going to buy the 4yr warranty regardless, but the dude told me for them to give it to me at $1499 I had to buy the warranty. It didn't matter since I was buying the warranty anyways if I bought it at ABT or CC. I had the RP have a component issue last summer, thank god I had the ext. warranty that covered it. The warranty was $400 for 4 yrs.

He has the mother beast of them all a Sony XBR, which is an amazing CRT. Watching games on that TV is like glass, but the bastard is soo heavy.

One thing that I hated with Rear Projection like my old Toshiba was the size and burn-in issue. The newer projections (DLP, LCD) have corrected tons of issues that were in the old CRT Projections like what Football was looking at. CRT Projections produce a nice picture, but personally this day and age I would stay away from due to burn-in alone and their big beasts.
