So far, I just have my Comcast HD DVR (via HDMI) and the Toshiba HD-A30 (via HDMI) hooked up. That's all for now because I have the 360 and PS3 hooked up downstairs.

It looks great, still have to mess with the settings to get everything the way I like it.

I have a question. My Olevia only has one HDMI input I have an Xbox 360 and a HD-DVD Player that I share a HDMI cable with. Is there anything that would allow me to somehow have two HDMI inputs, so I don't have to keep going back and forth with the cable?

oh yeah, they do have hdmi switchers. Check monoprice.com and look there. You will find a few to suit you.

For those with LCD's and HD DVR's, what do you have the output on the cable box set to? 720p or 1080i?

I have the 32" Olevia LCD and the Motorola DCH3416 dual-tuner DVR from Comcast. The DVR can output 1080i, but my TV's native resolution is 720p so that's what I have my DVR set to output.

LCD's are natively 720p so that is what I have my DirectTV HD DVR set to.

I can have it where my DVR kicks out 1080i all the time, 720p all the time, or swaps depending on what the source is (some HD channels 1080i, some 720p, so it'll give me ESPN 720p, while CBS in 1080i). Think I'm better off going that route rather (sending the natives to my tv) since it can handle 720p and 1080i? Probably not good having the cable box upconvert everything to 1080i.

Ok so I have a strange problem with my HDTV all of a sudden. When I switch to my HDMI or my component hook up all I get is a all green picture. When I switch to my vcr output it is fine? I can't watch anything on my cable box which is the component and now I can't watch anything on my HDTV? Any solutions?

Ok, i know i can search this thread but i will admit that i am too lazy to read 450+ pages for the answers i need....so please excuse me...

After years of begging, my wife finally gave in and we just purchased a Vizio. We actually went into Circuit City to buy the 32" and they were out of stock, so my wife asked if i just wanted the 37" (which was in stock)... i-was -speechless....so we got this:



Vizio VX37L .....it's still in the box. I have read that this is a good HDTV...anyone else have this?

I know absolutely nothing about HDTVs....so i pretty much just need to know what all i need to start enjoying my new TV. We haven't decided if we'll mount it on the wall (are they safe?) I saw on the local news someone's 4 year old child got killed here recently by a fallen 50" TV....we have a 4 year old and having it just hanging on the wall might make me nervous......surge protector (does it matter which brand of surge protector i use?)....what are HDMI cables for? Do i need these things? Is there anything in particular that i need to know about HDTVs, particularly this one? Any help would be appreciated....

I'll be really looking forward to read everyone's input....in the mean time, i'll be just reading thru this thread trying to learn some things about the HDTV world.....

P.S. I really don't plan on doing anything fancy with this tv... YET (i.e. use it as a computer monitor, etc...)...i am pretty much just wanting to watch my HD channels and FINALLY get a chance to play my 360 in HD. Hopefully i can get Directv out here before saturday night so that I can watch the Jags beat up on the Pats in HD!!!

When I picked up my HDTV about a year ago, I picked up an up-conversion DVD player as well and glad I did - even though the movies weren't natively HD, they still looked great. You can get HDMI cables from monoprice.com if you want to wait or just buy the cheapest ones you can find in town.

If you get a professional to put it on the wall you'll be fine. I wouldn't trust myself to put up a TV that big on a wall.

Welcome to the Vizio family. I have the 32 inch and loving it. In terms of getting started, it's not too hard.
1) You want HDMI cables if you have a Elite 360 or getting a HD dish from Direct TV. Get them for like $8 shipped at www.monoprice.com Don't get expensive ones. Unlike analog A/V...digital is all or nothing.
2) Your Vizio probably comes with the cable that's needed to hook it to a computer; mine did.
3) You can just use a regular antenna go try and get HD channels over the air...ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS. Depending on where you are, you may get some.
4) For your 360 if it's not Elite, just use component or VGA. You'll get a great picture either way.
5) If you already have a surround sound system, you can hook that up to. Just look in the back for analog out.

I have that exact tv and I love it! When I get home I'll find the AVSForum thread that has tons of info on this tv, as well as some people's settings (for brightness, etc). Good purchase, I use my 360, Wii, and now a PS3 on it and they all work great!

Mine sits on an entertainment center, so I dunno about wall mounts, but if you buy the right mount and install it correctly you've got nothing to worry bout.

Thanks man! I got it out the box when i got home from work today and i know im going to enjoy this bad boy. I'll be calling Directv tomorrow to upgrade to HD.

Thanks for the tip on getting HDMI cables...the ones i was looking at in the store was kind of pricey....

.....i have a regular xbox 360......im about to try it right now

...i can't wait to be watching HD channels once i get my Directv upgrade!
