This is just a stab but this how I interpreted some of the lyrics.
"Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night"
Discusses how Tony always has to look around in the shadows for someone to pop out and cap him.
"Everybody wants a thrill"
How the audience just wanted a big dramatic closing with Tony getting shot but Chase is saying that life doesn't work like that.
"Working hard to get my fill,"
This is likely just a coincidence but I find it amusing because you could say Tony worked hard to get Phil.
"Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on"
The Sopranos don't end. We may not be able to peer into their world anymore, but their world continues on.
Personally, I think the ending was quite lazy. Chase couldn't think of anything clever so he just decided to end it by not having an ending at all really. I guess I like this better than a predictable ending like Tony getting shot. Still seems lazy and it is disappointing. Especially because people talk about how much of a genius Chase is but this ending just seemed very simple.
You also have to wonder what exactly Chase was thinking with the sudden cut to black. Did Tony die? Or is it us that is dead in Sopranoland? It just seems like that Bacala quote has to mean something. Why else would they flash back to it at the end of the second to last episode?
He did a nice job picking the song for the end though.
