Why does everyone hate Doom so much?

Reasons why I like Doom...

-He throws away what a rap song SHOULD sound like and he expands the boundaries of the genre
-He's a very good storyteller
-Very creative
-Nothing he does sounds forced

I'm not blown away by his beats, and to me, thats the most overrated part about him. All he does is take a classic song, loop it, and throw some drums on there.

Mmm..Food is a great album, along with Vaudeville Villain (Viktor Vaughn) and the Madvillainy CD is just a CLASSIC.

Plus, it's hard to say he's overrated when the majority of the people here don't like him. Either people REALLY like him or REALLLLLLLY hate him.

Doom is NICE! For all of us old enough to remember KMD(Ok all my 30+ :-)), Doom is no more than an solo extension of what KMD was. KMD was different for their time as well. While others were talking about G Funk and Timb Boots, KMD was on some Next ****. They actually made Albums and not just a collection of singles!

Anyone heard that new Craig G track, "Letter to New York" I couldn't have agreed more with what he was saying. I'm glad to see some undergrounds heads on this board. Speaking of which, where's SagetheInfinite?

I just got the most recent Heiruspecs album, and it's pretty good. I can't believe I haven't heard of these guys before.

Also, I wanted to ask how many of you are Blackalicious fans? I'm a huge fan, especially Blazing Arrow, which, in my opinion, is a masterpiece.

I was also curious as to how you guys got started into underground? Like which songs and stuff? For me, when I first heard the Roots (Come Alive and Phrenology), Talib, and Blackalicious, I was hooked. Specifically, Seed 2.0, Get By, Blazing Arrow, and 3030 by Del. Mostly recent stuff. I wasn't introduced to underground until recently, but the first CD I ever got when I got a CD player was A Tribe Called Quest-Low End Theory so I guess I've always kind of liked it, though I guess Tribe isn't really underground.

Besides, who else could you get to do a video showing himself in a straightjacket? Kool Keith was, as still is, beyond nuts.

Doom is totally hit or miss. I either love a track by him or hate it.

I guess that's what happens when you have 14 different personalities.

I'm a big fan of blackalicious and heiruspecs.

The first group that got me into underground was little brother. I was living in raleigh at the time and I remember hearing about a group from raleigh/durham but I never heard any of their music. Somehow I got part of the listening and I've been an underground head ever since. That's why I'll always have a soft spot for little brother because I would only have heard the crappy artists on the radio. Oh yeah, my mom used to listen to a tribe called quest so I did hear them and I loved them but they weren't really underground.

not me . i cant stand blackalicious , they put me to sleep - thats how boring i find them to be .

as for what got me into underground - some online friends from some other forum . the first underground i heard was a couple of years back - little brother the listening and immortal technique were a two of my first experiences in which i liked it . i always envisioned underground as having crappy beats and generic lyrics but ive found out that neither were remotely true.
before i used to make fun of ppl who listened to underground .

I never thought I would hear anybody say that about Blackalicious but I suppose that's just an example of how everybody has their own specific tastes. Like the other guys in this thread and how much they like Doom. Don't get me wrong, I like Doom, but not to the extent that they do. Personally, I really like the whole DangerDoom album, especially Old School with Kweli.

I am not into the Old School like I used to be, but mainly I was listening to Eric B. and Rakim, and EPMD...

As far as Jazzy Jeff is concerned... he is a talented DJ/Producer. His Album "The Magnificent" is great, and the song "For Da Love of Da Game" I believe is one of the 25 best rap songs of all-time (I made my own top 25... I'll post it soon).



Again, not loving the Old School here, and I didn't like Run DMC too much... I feel like they were overrated just because they were pioneers. But I guess "Raising Hell" is the best option if you're into them.

LOL... Summertime is like the only good song on that album. I wasn't a big fan of Fresh Prince, but when he made the change to Will Smith, he got a little better.
