is this a trivia question? because wouldn't it be on "The Ladies Champ EP"? I used to have that on cd but never listened to it more than twice for some reason. I remember this song vaguely but it's HOT AS HELL.

I don't think it's on that but I have the full album, not the EP. That song is really nice and I love that beat.

          The FOUR Awards

          Verse of the Year:

Akil Dasan's verse @ 2:34 in the song "VIP (Can You Hear Me Now)" by Us3

Remember "Cantaloop" back in the day? That, "Hot Stepper" and "This is How We Do It" were your unconventional hits of 1993 that brought all sorts of changes to their respective musical genres. The album of which "Cantaloop" comes from... "Hands on the Torch" even reached PLATINUM status in the USA. Back then Us3 had a whole different lineup... except producer Geoff Wilkinson. Who would have thought that this talented assembly from London would be back in 2007 to drop something hotter than the rest of the competition? I'm not talking about the album. The album was very so-so to the usual hip-hop ear. You need an acquired taste to fully appreciate the greatness of Us3.

I'm not even talking about the whole "VIP" track. I have other faves on this album like "Afrodisiac" or simply just looking at the female-vocalist Adeline.

But this verse... oh man this verse is incredible. It starts out 'stronger' and finishes 'strongest'. Seriously, there is no let up in this song, and the delivery is on-point as well. The intensity of Akil Dasan's flow makes "VIP (Can You Hear Me Now)" one of the songs you must listen to before 2007 expires. I have a tough time seeing a song from 2008 overshadow this joint.

The lyrics really have no bearing on anything important. It's actually about hitting up the club, sans the name "VIP". But just check the lyrics below and take time to listen to the verse. IT WILL blow your socks off...

Big Willie N in the VIP
I got a Big Willie watch but still ain't free
I gotta really big whip for my P.Y.T.'s
but then it ran outta gas so it's B-Y-E ha!
          I wanna floss like B-I-G, G-I-E
          and party til I D-I-E
          I won't stop til I drop on my P-I-G
you D-I-G the rhythm that I B-I-T what!?
you wanna ask me to see I.D. no!
there goes the bartender's T-I-P bro!
          you don't know me I'm the V-I-P
I just wanna big piece of the P-I-E syke!
I get down cause I'm diggin the sound
and wiggle around and rock to the rhythm I found
the way to move the crowd and it sounds devine
my nouns combine in ways to astound your mind
I got no time to bake, no cake to waste
don't hate the way that I make greats relate
to words it seems absurd but it still makes sense
I got much more to say and it's really intense
and yo, get ready to get up, get ready to listen
cause I just delivered the rhythm for your criticism
yeah, I can't change who's sayin my name
but playa hatas can't hate it I ain't playin the game

I bet you didn't think he looked like this...

Happy New Years Everyone!!! I'll finish this all up in the upcoming days!

This the Rollersktaing Jam? I think he said it was just a "fun song" he and RJ did.

Here is the link to what JMood was talking about, that Phonte album. From Okayplayer

ne of the funniest "albums" (although its very unpolished and more
demo like in sound quality) to ever be released is Phonte of Little
Brother and Eccentric's 2000 "Unheralded Symmetrics: The Story of
U.S.". The album is a concept album of two broke M.C.'s from "West
Bubble****, Idaho". Phonte does what he does best, doing hilarious
imitations of everyone from RZA to Eminem to Aaron Neville. It
chronicles the two's journey to get a record deal, while all the
label heads want them to sound like someone else already out. Phonte
is that dude, he is funny as **** on this. You have come to expect
this from Tay with his Roy Lee alter ego or his Percy Miracles that
was given away a couple years ago with the "Minstrel Show".

Here is the story of "The Story of U.S." from Phonte himself that
was in the re-release of the project in 2003, which I picked up on
                Hip Hop Site.

In late 2000,, me and my producer Eccentric recorded about 8 songs
for a solo project I was working on. After the label we were working
with folded, we sat around his crib for a few days chillin' with
some loose instrumentals. Pissed off about our label situation and
thinking about our next move, we started recording a
(autobiographical?????) comedy album about two "underground" MC's
struggling to get a record deal. Everything was completely
freestyled and created on the spot, and very seldom did we do
alternate takes. We finished the album in 2-3 days, after which I
played the record for my crew and made copies for a few friends
before finally posting it on the internet.

The word got around pretty quickly that me and Eccentric (also known
as "****ing Jerrold" from the "Get Up") were some wild dudes.
Although Me, Pooh, and 9th would go on to form Little Brother and a
hard drive crash would basically take Eccentric out of the producing
game, we look back on this album as a hilarious reminder of
the "early days" when we were still searching for our place in hip
hop. It amazes me that after 3 years (this was written in 03) people
still ask about this record. After all, me and Eccentric were
just "two broke n----s with no deals who didn't have **** else to do
with their time". Here it is in all its horribly mixed and
                unmastered glory, Enjoy!

Oh I had just remembered that I was gonna send it to you two. Electric Lady and Yo *** Is So Fat are the funniest songs on the album.

Do either one of you have the Tiggalo EP? If anybody wants it I can send it.

"Sonically people can expect bigger sounding beats, more expansion of my sound." There will be an element of classic, throwback R&B, but with a current twist. With this album I'm not only defining myself, but I'm defining people in my age group. It's not necessarily an underground or overground thing, you just want to find the music that fits you and where you are in your life right about now. That's what The Wonder Years is for me. My calling is soul music -- just good for the soul and good to listen to. It's more reminiscent of the great pantheon of Black music, and I want to be mentioned in that somewhere. Somebody has to come along and join what Common and all of these other great MCs started, we really have to start looking at the situation of how we affect young Black men and women. In the past music has been used for good, music has always had a message in it, and I just want to be a part of that legacy." - 9th Wonder
