I love how Atmosphere describes itself as Emo-Hop. Thats classic!

Anyone heard that new Black Spade- To serve with Love CD

He did a cd with Nicolay maybe 2 yrs ago.

Anyways, its not bad. It starts out kinda average but the beats really pick up towards the end of the cd
yeah... i've had it since mid-March, and I thought the cd in it's entirety was a disappointment, but the dude has TALENT. On this album, he produces all the beats under his alter-alias Stoney Rock. He raps, and he sings really nice hooks. REALLY NICE... It's funny that you mentioned this album, because I just started using "As We" as my ringtone... that song JAMS hard!!!

Yeah man. Black Spade can get a lil boring after a while since his tone and flow rarely change.

yeah man if you haven't seen the Roots live before, I'd say do what you can to see them live. I saw them at Bonnaroo and it was amazing, they go into all sorts of solos and freestyles. Very much worth it.

yeah, a lot of the songs are also too "artistic" (can't really think about a better word) to the point where it's too abstract for my taste.

USF, check out MF DOOM's "MMM...Food?" too. Its my personal favorite of his. DANGER DOOM isn't bad either if you like Danger Mouse's beats and like Adult Swim.

I have the DANGER DOOM stuff, when I was absorbing everything by Kweli I picked it up.

I saw Atmosphere in Austin this weekend. I had seen them in Oklahoma City in November, but I didn't drink so much this time and remember it vividly. Such a fantastic live performance. They did Shrapnel, Puppets, God Loves Ugly, Always Coming Back Home to You (my favorite performance of the night), Smart Went Crazy, Little Man, Guns and Cigarettes, Music Box, and some others I'll remember later. Little Man is one of my personal faves and I was really glad to hear it live for once.

That's awesome man. I also really like Little Man...along with all the songs you mentioned.

                              Re: fans of underground rap?

You know whats funny, I remember looking at the popularity of this thread and thinking WTF, whats the big deal? I remember when I used to goto independent alt rock shows all the time when I was younger, and the quality just wasnt there. Often with indy alt rock you have people that can play instruments at a much higher level then the lyrical quality, which makes it a cluster@#^%.

When I think "underground rap" my initial thought is low production values and even more watered down lyrics then mainstream Hip-Hop. The truth is this genre of music is anything but. There is just SO MUCH quality music out there that hardly anyone knows about, then again I contend that we are in a age where TV has absolutely some of the best shows of all-time on right now,(Lost, House, The Office) yet they only have achieved so much of an audience.

The other thing is, and maybe its because I live in Chicago, this music has absolutely no presence here. You goto parties and people are still playing 50 cent and I think to myself "you people really like this sh!t". Seriously.

Here's another thing, I don't know if Atmoshpere has no business savy or what, but how can you release your most successful album yet, then only play a few american dates before going to Europe for months?

Atmosphere tours his *** off, plus I really don't think he's in it for the money more so then to be heard. He's been ****ting on major label deals ever since God Loves Ugly blew up. He just wants the world to hear his music and run his label the way he wants to. It's all about control more a paycheck.
