I just wonder what the long term effects the story might cause. But Morrison has a great reputation and I know he will do the character well. I did read Morrison's Seven Soldiers stuff on fossen's recommendation and it was interesting. Different than a lot of stuff I read, but still very good. I'm really looking forward to Morrison's stuff on Wildcats and The Authority next month with the Wildstorm relaunches.
Oh don't get me wrong the Batman and Son storyline is interesting (I don't buy my comics as soon as they come out. I wait a week or so later so I get 3 comics at one time) but what i'm complaining about is the structure. Morrison spreads things out obviously because he has a TPB in mind. For instance the 2nd issue was really one long boring fight scene and the revelation at the end.

Dini on the other hand has written very tight stories that hold my interest from jump street.

The same can be said for Kurt Busiek on both SUPERMAN and ACTION. He has two ongoing storylines cooking and unlike Morrison keeps the story going. Even when the pace slows down you actually get "gasp!" plot! Busiek does a tremendous job of hooking the reader and getting them to read the entire issue without being bored. Hell, I even loved the old cliffhanger approach to the end of Action #842.

I'm willing to give Morrison more time but suffice it to say i'm enjoying the two other writers much more.

      Thanks for the help.

Batman's without a doubt my favorite comic-character, so all the suggestions on his good stories are very nice.

Should I wait for the Hush-arc storyline is over and pick it up then, or just buy what';s out now and add-on?

The Hush story arc has been done for a while now. I believe it's all collected in a 2 volume TPB set.

The Hush story is over, I think it ran during 2004.

BUT....don't get the sequel to THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS called THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN.

Frank Miller botched up a potentially good sequel and turned into a bizarre, over dramatic rehash of the original TPB.

I liked Batman 657 that came out yesterday. That issue had lots of action in it. You don't really see that much development in a storyline within one issue these days. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I do think Morrison wrote Robin wrong. I have never seen Tim act that insecure before and I don't think he would act like a baby the way Morrison wrote him. Still, I thought it was a really good issue and can't wait for the final issue of the arc next month.

By the way, fossen, you recommended Marvel's Runaways to me on your blog and I wanted to thank you. I read the first volume of the TPBs yesterday and it was outstanding. I have no idea who the title continues, but it was set up great and the runaways are really cool characters. Can't wait to start the next volume tonight Thanks

Hm Hopefully i'll find something to like within the issue as i'll have it in my grubby little hands around 6ish.

I haven't bought a TPB in a long time, mainly because I don't have a credit card to buy online anymore as I find buying online is a lot simpler then going someplace. Sometimes the brick and mortar store won't have it and i'd have to ask them to order it for me which is kinda sad in a way.

I THINK Mile High Comics accepts money orders so i'll take a stab at that early next month when i'm slated to purchase another old NFL game broadcast.

                      Re: Comic Book Fans....

Entertainment Weekly has a preview for Richard Donner and Geoff Johns Action Comics story that starts next issue.

I'm looking forward to it. I think the synopsis is interesting, although at first glimpse I thought it sounded just like Jeff Loeb's Supergirl run on the Superman/Batman title a little while ago. But from what I've read, Donner doesn't really keep up on comic stories, so I'm sure the idea is original to him. Here's the synopsis of what the run is about:
“A rocket lands in Metropolis containing a boy that Superman thinks is from Krypton,” Johns explained. “Along with figuring out that that means to him, everyone wants this kid now. He’s become the most valuable kid on the planet. Lex Luthor has his sights on him, and has assembled his own team of villains to nab him, and things are setting up for a big action/mystery story surrounding this kid, and seeing where his future lies. Is he destined to become earth’s new Superboy? Who knows?”
I think Donner's views of Superman and the other characters are still that of what he made his movies of 25+ years ago. I hope this where Geoff Johns does good work by keeping the story with the current Superman continuity. I think Donner will deliver a great story, I just hope it doesn't come across as a story that would be better set in a out of continuity mini series, like something in All-star Superman or Superman Confidential. Either way I'm really looking forward to October 25th when this all gets underway.

I haven't read a comic book in about 20 years... but does anyone know if their is a TPB (or some all inclusive book) of the Marvel Civil War story.

kevin i'm really looking forward to that Johns/Donner collaboration as well. Everything i've read from Johns has been first rate and having a guy like Donner to bring some "out of comis" ideas into the mix will be good. I do agree that it has the possibility of turning into something more suited to Elseworlds but let's check it out before we start worrying about that yet.

That's it, the prices are a little exhorbitant for my shoestring budget. I will be getting a paypal account soon and hope to be able to stock up on some TPBs or comics that covers one storyline in particular.

Anyway, what's your guys take on the Batman: Secrets mini-series? Is it worth a purchase?
