All-Star Superman is a good book. I like it quite a bit, although I do like the current story in the main two Superman books better right now. The art in All-Star Superman seems to be a hang up for some people. At first I didn't really like Quitely's art style, but after reading 4 issues of this and his Authority stuff, I've grown to like it. There are still other artists out their I prefer, but Quitely is very good as well. Grant Morrison's writing seems to always be good I think, he's one of my top 5 writers. This past issue was very silver agish it seemed, and was a fresh read compared to a lot of other storylines. The release schedule on this title is kinda slow, but not nearly like the Batman and Robin releases. I think this one comes out about every other month, but it is top quality when it is released.
I doubt it would be hard to walk into a comic shop and by all 4 issues if you want to check them out.

I know this is really ancient history to you guys, but I picked up Frank Millers Batman Collection in hardbound, and loved it. Havent read a comic book in probably 20 years. The story was very mature and I loved the artwork. Thinking about getting his Sin City stuff. Someone earlier in the thread had recommended The Watcher I think thats what its called, how is that one?Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
A few books I enjoyed this past week were All-Star Superman #4, Birds of Prey #95, Flash #1, and Superman/Batman #27.
The All-Star Superman was pretty cool. It focused on Jimmy Olson as a throwback to the old Superman's Pal stories. I thought the Doomsday weapon was a good twist.
Superman/Batman #27 doesn't do much in terms of continuity in the current DC Universe, but it was a neat story about Power Girl and The Huntress. This issue starts the run of a new writer on the series and it was definitely a good start. It has me looking forward to the next story arc starting next month. I really didn't enjoy the previous 5 or 6 six issues of this title even though I like Jeph Loeb's writings, so I'm looking forward to a nice change.
Flash #1 I thought was cool. I was wondering what they were going to do with the Flash after Infinite Crisis, and I also remember enjoying the old TV show and this comic has the same writers. The character I wanted as Flash is the centerpoint, so that excited me. I had to read the issue carefully because sometimes it was difficult to determine who was telling the story because it switched between a few of the different Flashes. Anyway, I've never been too big a fan of the Flash, just a casual fan, but this issue won me over to keep the title up for a while. Like I said, the character I wanted the title to be about is the one it is, so that's good for me anyway.
Birds of Prey #95 finished up the first One Year Later story in all the titles I've read. I liked this past story arc, part of it centered around how Black Canary and Lady Shiva have swapped roles. Shiva becomes a Bird of Prey and Canary goes to Shiva's original training roots. This past issue wrapped all that up. I hope the next story gives more info on the new Bird, Gypsy, I don't know much about her but she seems to fit well into the team of Oracle, Huntress, and Canary. I was hoping the Zinda character wouldn't be around after Infinite Crisis, but she is...
Oh yeah, 52 week 7 was really cool too. Booster got busted so bad :y4:
I'm really looking forward to his week's comics. This is what I'm getting:
STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC #6
52 WEEK #8
ACTION COMICS #840
BATMAN #654
BLUE BEETLE #4
DCU BRAVE NEW WORLD #1
ION #3
SUPERMAN RETURNS LOIS LANE
The Action Comics and Batman titles wrap up their One Year Later first stories, so I'm really wanting to read those. Both those stories have been great.
The Star Wars issue this week also wraps up it's first storyline I believe, so that will be fun. I was really surprised how much I liked this title, I never got into Star Wars comics that much. This one is really good as is the new Rebellion title.
I'm hoping the last of the Superman Returns prequels, Lois Lane, is going to be good. The Ma Kent was was really good while the other two were just decent. This one definitely has the potential to be good since it is about what happens with Lois during Superman's disappearance. I hope it sheds some light on her kid.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Hopefully there's still interest in this topic:
Anywho I finally finished reading the "Face the Face" storyline in the bat-books and I was surprised by the twist to the story. I was also touched by the final scene between Batman and Robin.
The real reason behind this post tho is that I just read Paul Dini's first issue of Detective and I must say it felt a bit ho-hum. Maybe it's because it dealt with a new villian and one who was fairly run of the mill. The next issue is supposed to have the Riddler in it so maybe the writing will pick up.
The artwork was interesting as parts of it were reminiscent of B:TAS but the majority of the book had a photorealistic/painted look. I really hope whoever does the art on the book settles with one art style as the contrast was a bit jarring to me.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Originally posted by aukevinHaven't gotten a chance to read that final issue of the Face the Face storyline, I will tonight though (been on vacation). I thought I had read that the new Dini stories were going to be more detective-like, did you get that impression? I'll pick up that issue this afternoon. I'm trying to picture a combination of the animated series and photorealistic art at the same time? I'll have to look at it tonight to see what you mean?Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Originally posted by SPTOYep it was very detective like which was kinda neat tho the last couple pages gave me one big Columbo moment. As for the art the B:TAS kind of look often came when Batman was doing the narrative. It's not fully B:TAS in style but the first page definitely is. Again it seemed very pedestrian but at least it was a self contained story so I can't complain too much.
