Re: Comic Book Fans....
I am so disappointed in the direction DC is taking with these characters who have been so close to my heart for the majority of my life. I just finished reading Batman #40 the conclusion of Endgame. For me this is truly the endgame. Collecting Batman for 40+ years, I have every book from #200 until now. I'm done.
I'll be reading the DC books today/evening so I guess i'll find out.
Triplecrown for the most part the Batbooks have been very good. I'd backup the recommendation on The Court of Owls storyline. That was an interesting and fascinating change to the Batman/Gotham history that added new life and new avenues for story possibilities. Geoff Johns' Aquaman run added new life and garnered a TON of interest in the character that hasn't been seen in YEARS. The Jeff Parker (I think it's him) run right now is still pretty good but not nearly in the same ballpark. I've been enjoying Aquaman quite a bit. Green Arrow has seen some ups and downs but that's another good one.
Overall, I think the New 52 was a necessity for some characters but it also added some baggage as the GL books pretty much ignored it at first and then shoehorned it in way too late.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
I haven't read a lot of Avengers, picked issues here and there, but I did pick up #44 since its a final issue and will lead into Secret Wars. I also picked up New Avengers # 33 for the same reason.
I would say start there, jump right in.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
The latest issue (and last) of Avengers wasn't too bad, since it was devoid of all of the extra cast of characters (Black Swans, etc) and basically spelled out everything going into Secret Wars.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
If you're diving into older stories, try reading Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. I think this is some of the best art/storytelling that Marvel has ever done.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
That's something I wish DC would do. I remember while reading the inverted event and some of the spinoffs actually led me to reading Superior Iron Man which has been great reading. I had dropped that quite a while ago but it was pretty easy to get back into. Too bad everything is going to get shaken up in the Marvel U this summer.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
I think every comic should start with a prologue or refresh of some kind. This is a simple way to appeal to new readers. It pisses me off so much that Dc doesn't do this for their books. It would've been especially useful for the disorganized "Futures End" event.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Another successful Free Comic Book Day. Blew away last years by a huge margin. Double my order of books from last year and "sold out" an hour before close. They started lining up an hour before we opened and the line wrapped around the block whrn we opened the doors. In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Read Avengers #44 and am midway through New Avengers #33. Admittedly New Avengers #33 is much harder to follow despite what's explained in the issue's prologue.
I enjoyed Avengers #44 and it does set up Secret Wars by telling us what's at stake and provides some good flashbacks from issue #1 of Avengers' current volume to put the grand plot in context.
Can't help but feel though that the Cap/Iron-Man conflict is essentially a been there done that, striking comparisons to Cyclops and Wolverine's conflicts. The premise is the same as the X-Books, splitting the team into two and being at odds with each other, only this time the stakes are a lot higher w/ Avengers i.e. destruction of entire universes.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Read the FCBD Divergence book
1. Generally like the direction they're taking Supes and I really wanna see how the hell that status quo got established
2. The Darkseid War looks intriguing

Death of the Family is one of the best things I've ever read. I can't put it down. And I love that it's all the books combined.
This one.
