I disliked the whole Batman Inc. arc. I did like Dick and Damien as Batman and Robin though.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
X-Men First Class is awesome (see the thread).
Where is a good place to start for X-Men? Is it as obvious as picking up X-Men vol. 1 of the Marvel Masterworks and continuing from there? Is the Whedon Astonishing X-Men series good?

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Never read anything from Whedon's run, but my recommendation would be to start with the Giant-Size X-Men #1 where a new roster including Wolverine, Storm, Colossus and others was formed to save the original members. After that, find Uncanny #94 however you can and go from there. This is the beginning of Chris Claremont's and John Byrne's run on the series and it's full of great great stories man.
I think my cousin still has all those original print issues. Lucky bastard.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
The X-Books are so impossible to get into IMO. There's so much convoluted history and different takes on the group that you'll get lost in the minutiae. If you do get into them and follow the X-Books then well, you're made of sterner stuff than I!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Also, Chris Claremont's long run and Grant Morrisons time both had excellent runs on X-men titles, but those are quite far along in the mythos. The marvel masterworks collection linked in this thread is also a great start. Some classic early stories in there.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Apparently my brother has the Whedon series, so I will probably check out the first two volumes and see how I like them. I also ordered Uncanny X-Men vol. 1 (Marvel Masterworks) and will go from there.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Ed Brubaker sure has balls!
I just read the first issue of the latest installment of Criminal, his adult crime series. Anyways this one is starting off pretty interesting and here's where the cajones come in. Basically it's about a guy who goes back to his childhood home ostensibly to see his dying father but also to steal money from his rich wife's family safe box. The lead character and the whole setup/background to this is a more adult and jaded version of......Archie Comics!
The flashbacks done by artist Sean Philips captures the Archie feel and Brubaker gives it that feel even though the characters are rougher than the Archie characters. I'm surprised he's gotten away with this because the similarities are so transparent that even someone who's not TOO familiar with Archie would catch on to the analogues of Archie characters. I'll be looking forward to reading the rest of this mini.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
So this whole DC Reboot (reboot is the wrong word more like a redefining) is worrying me a bit. A lot of the costume changes scream "1990's" and now i've read that Bob Harras is the new EIC. "sigh"
To top it off Rob Liefeld is doing the art chores on a new Hawk & Dove book. It's like, in the attempt to be hip and cool DC is amplifying some of the worst aspects of the medium.
At least the company employs some really good writers but it could very well be undone by a poor new Status Quo and '90s style art.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
