Re: Comic Book Fans....
After reading the series very slowly over the years, I finally broke down and just bought the last 6 TPBs of Y: The Last Man. It's definitely a very good book, one I would describe as light reading. It's easy to fly through a TPB in one sitting. Early on I was worried the brand of humor the book goes for would grow stale but I found it enjoyable and surprising even in issue 60 (it may have also helped that I started with book 1 in 2008). I did find the ending a bit unsatisfying though. It wasn't so much that I was upset with where Vaughn took it, I just think certain aspects of the last two issues could have been handled in a more satisfying way.
At any rate, this is one series that should have no problems making the leap from page to film. Hopefully the studios get going with the first film (I'm assuming a trilogy here) while the comic book movie "fad" is still going strong.Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Well to be short and sweet about it, it's got beautiful art though I wonder why the "present day" MJ looks so frumpy and a bit pudgy but it does add a touch of realism so I can't argue too much about it. I thought the first issue where they incorporate the actual wedding issue from years ago was the strongest of the issues. Without giving away everything as i've read #640 I don't particularly like the whole reason for why the marriage doesn't happen and the hoops that are jumped through to get to that point (though we're not quite there as #641 is the concluding issue) is a bit of a stretch.
I don't really understand the need to put characters back to their "glory day" in the writers' minds. We got Joey Q wanting to put Spider-Man back into the creative sandbox of the 1970s whereas over at DC Didio, Johns etc et al have brought back Barry Allen and are trying their damndest to make he and Hal Jordan seem like the real big guns in the DC Universe while at the same time giving lip service to the REAL Big Guns in Bats, Supes and Wonder Woman.

I absolutely hate OMIT and the "reason" they've used so far are quite weak. It still doesn't explain how everyone else "forgot" his unmasking too as it seems that whole part of the Civil War's been retconned as well. I. Do. Not. Like. It. Once we get past this crap things will be better (I hope those new Spidey costumes are weird...)HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Big News in the batverse as DC is going with Bruce AND Dick as batman. Dick will have 3 books while Bruce will have 2 including a new series called Dark Detective.
Thoughts?
In some ways DC's hands were tied as the "Dick as Batman" dynamic proved to be really popular. You can't just fold Bruce back as Batman and leave Dick hanging (pun unintended) Unfortunately you can't just have Dick being Batman only as well because the Bruce fans will go nuts.
We'll see how it goes but it could lead to some real competition between the writers/artists and that should foster some creativity.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
I wish DC would start releasing the new weekly comics as digital downloads. I collected comics for a good part of 15 years and space to keep the comics just became an issue and I cut them out of my life a couple years ago now. Now with an iPad, if DC started having new issues for purchase digitally, I would start reading my favs again. I still miss the Superman, Batman, and Legion stories, but I have boxes and boxes of comics that I just don't have enough space for anymore other than the attic.

The cost is too prohibitive for me as I was heavily into it a few years ago. I found myself an alternative though (Shhhh!) I'd gladly pay if books weren't 3 bucks a pop for something that can be read in 15 minutes or less. I have been noticing though that some writers have slowly gone back to a more compressed storytelling mode so that's good. (most notably Grant Morrison)Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
