    Re: Comic Book Fans....

Just finally read Batman: Year One after "coming across it" ().

So, so awesome. It was actually a lot different from Batman Begins than I expected it to be. I always thought the movie took from a good portion of the book, but it didn't so that was nice.

From what I think I know, I don't think they ever followed up with The Joker after the end of Year One, so do I move on to The Dark Knight Returns?

I always thought that Year One and the DKR were always stand alone stories. I read DK first and it didn't seem strange to me.

Do any of you guys use the Comixology app on iPad? I just started last week and it's been nothing but a giant pain since. I've bought a ton of comics and as of tonight I can't get any of them to download. I've rebooted, reinstalled and everything else I can think of and still I'm stuck. I've spent around $70 on comics that I can't read, it's some kind of bad joke. These guys better get their ducks in a row for Septembers DC day and date relaunch or the internet will explode.

Plenty of good Batman to read between Year One and DKR. Off the top of my head if you were going for chronology.

        Long Halloween
        Dark Victory
The Killing Joke (More of a Joker story but a must read IMO)
        A Death in the Family

I would at least try and read those if you're that interested in Batman. Plenty more out there but these are all very good reads.

Yep all of the above are awesome books. The Long Halloween is close to my favorite Batman arc. Jeph Loeb is a great writer.

Same here for me. Long Halloween is just awesome.

Haunted Knight is pretty good as well.

Long Halloween is my favorite. Hands down. Just talking about it makes me want to read it again.

TLH is basically the best thing Jeph Loeb has ever written. Dark Victory is quite good too but there's a lot of the same beats and structure to that story but it's well worth the read as well.

Now if you want something HUGE try out No Man's Land. I haven't read it (yet) but a good portion of it is said to be quite good though it starts to peter out near the end. I think it covers something like 10 TPBs!

No Man's Land was very good, but just too long. The Long Halloween definitely is a must read, heck a must multiple read.

                      Good call.

I actually used to have a ton of No Man's Land comics back then. I just never got to follow the story from beginning to end.

                      Thanks for the suggestions, sirs.

If you like Jeph Loeb also check out his Superman For All Seasons from the late 90's. Its just as brilliant as the Long Halloween but in a different way.

I still haven't tracked down a copy of For All Seasons at my library but really want to read it. I'm normally not a big Superman fan but I recently added Red Son and Superman: Birthright to my collection and really enjoyed both.

Red Son is by Mark Millar and it's an elseworld story. Basically, it's a story about what things would have been like if Kal-El landed in Soviet Russia instead of Smallville.

Birthright is by Mark Waid and it's just another retelling of the Superman origin story. I don't keep up with Superman anything so I'm not sure if this was canon or not. Still, not a bad read for Supes.

This is one huge hole in my reading list. I'm not one of those who'll ever try to read every comic event/story out there but I do have a list of stories that I want to read before I die or go totally blind.

                            That's one of them.

I enjoyed the novel version of No Man's Land by Greg Rucka. Very solid read. Highly recommended.

Finished The Long Halloween tonight. It was amazing. The story and characters were great and the ending kinda caught me by surprise.

I noticed a lot of similarities to The Dark Knight (like I noticed between Year One and Batman Begins), but it's too bad we haven't seen this story played out in a Batman movie.
