Speaking of Civil War, I actually think the Civil War stuff sounds pretty interesting, I wish I had infinite money and time so I could read all that. I'm looking forward to borrowing it all from my brother once it is all over.
What's the Civil War about? Who's fighting who?

From the limited knowledge of it that I have since I'm not reading it, the story is basically about superhero registration. Kinda like the mutant registration in the X-men movies. The super-hero community is split over the conflict. Iron Man leads up the pro-registration side while Cap America leads up the anti-registration side. I can't imagine many super-heroes wanting to be on the pro-registration side. I'm interested in what people like Iron Man's reasons for it is. The big news a few months back was where Spider-man held a press conference and unmasked, but as I understand it now, he is on the anti-registration side of the camp. So something must of happened.

So he actually revealed who he was?

Evidently. Not sure what has happened since then. I did glance through some Spidey issues at the comic store today to see what he was wearing and it is still the Iron Man, disappointed in that, but he did appear to have two nicely functional eyes when he wasn't in the suit.

Is the Civil War storyline in Trade form yet? If so I may have to use that as my first Ebay purchase.

I don't think so. That storyline seems to be mixed in with all the other Marvel titles, so I imagine there will be lots of different stuff once they start coming out. I think the actual Civil War title is only at around #5 right now. I've just been keeping an eye on it through wikipedia and marvel's site.

I might be selling off my civil war issues when this thing is over. Collecting comics is a costly hobby right now...

About Spiderman, J. Michael Stracynski did a storyline that kind of added a supernatural twist to spiderman's powers. In this storyline a spidey villan named Morlun or something totally kicked his ***, took out his eye and damn near killed him. I think Spidey wrapped himself up in a cocoon and emerged in perfect health.

Currently in the Amazing Spiderman title Spidey has realized that he picked the wrong side and Iron Man has decided to take him down. I believe the last page of the last issue was Iron Man crashing through Spiderman's apt and tackling Spidey

I personally like Marvel comics a lot more than DC. The only comics I've read really from DC are Robin, Nightwing, and Teen Titans. I like my heroes more street level and in a real world setting. I just think Marvel brings that to the table more

                  OK a couple questions:

Has anyone read The Death of Superman and Death of Clark Kent story arcs? I know the first is a must read in terms of historical terms but is it actually a good you know, story? I'm a little less familiar with the Death of Clark Kent arc, is that any good?

I'm trying to jot down a list of must have TPBs as i'm really going to kickstart my comic book collection.

Oh and remember the Johns/Donner mini starts this week!

I've had the Death of Superman arch on my "to read" list for a long time now.

I liked the Death of Superman story. The battle between Superman and Doomsday is great, and it throws in a little Justice League action (but this Justice League is nowhere as star studded as the ones these days). But if you do that one, you might want to get the World Without a Superman and Return of Superman books. It's a pretty good trilogy to read at once. Those are all by Dan Jurgans and if you like those stories, you might like Death of Clark Kent since he did that too, but it isn't regarded as one of the best Superman stories. I'd get the Superman/Doomsday Hunter/Prey story by Jurgans instead of the Death of Clark Kent one.

My favorite Superman TPBs are For All Seasons and Secret Identity. Secret Identity isn't about the real Superman though, it's in a world where he is only a comic hero, I think I talked about it earlier in this thread. If you like the current Superman books by Kurt Busiek and the Astro City comics, you might like this since he did this one too.

If you want to get an origins Superman story, you can go with either the new telling from Superman Birthright TPB or the 1986 origin story that is the Man of Steel vol 1 TPB. I like the both, the 1986 is more the traditional of the two though. Birthright just updates it for todays times a little more.

In 2007 there will be a Green Arrow Year One story. Here's a summary of all the GA TPBs that there are.

The only ones I have read are the first few of the volume two relaunch by Kevin Smith (around 2002 I think).

Green Arrow Year One...i'm definitely going to have to buy that miniseries for sure.

I love origin/beginning type stories for some reason.
