yeah eBay is a great tool for getting comics. I don't know how much money I have spent there? Just last week I bought a 3-issue Green Arrow mini series called The Longbow Hunters. It is supposed to be an essential GA story. There's been lots of fullruns that I've picked up on ebay as well. eBay can also save you a little bit of money if you want to wait and buy a mini-series after all its issues have come out. I noticed over the years that I would buy all the issues to a mini series at the comic shop but not read them until all the parts were out. But now I've just been waiting until the series is over and then buying all the issues on eBay at the same time for a good discount.

DC would rather you buy the Archives books.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
I've only got the Spider-man CD set right now, but on that one the quality is fine. PDF lets you zoom in and out. I prefer to read the actual boks in my hand, but for $50 I can go back and read stories that would otherwise cost thousands of dollars to collect.
Right now all I buy is trade paperbacks via Amazon once a month or so. I long gave up on going to comic shops and buying issues every week. In fact, I quit altogether for a few years. I end up being a bit behind by waiting for the trades, but I like getting a whole story at once, rather than the slow drip of one part a month.
There are a couple of things that really bug me about superhero comics lately. First is how both Marvel and DC are doing their best to make me really dislike the heroes I'm supposed to be rooting for. There have been too many "good guys gone bad" stories lately. Scarlet Witch going crazy, Wonder Woman killing a guy (which didn't bother me, but it was another case of a hero doing something bad), Iron Man & Mr. Fantastic in Civil War, The Ultimates in general, Mono Knight etc... Why do they feel the need to make so many heroes so unlikeable?
The second issue I have with recent comics is when they get the basics wrong. In House of M, Scarlet Witch declares "No more mutants", but she leaves 198. By the time Civil War has come, what should still be a major issue is already an afterthought. Same goes for Spidey unmasking publicly in CW. It doesn't make any sense, no matter how they try and excuse it. I think thesde stories have gotten so big, and they have certain items they "have" to get in there, that they forget how to tell a story that makes sense.
Sorry for the long rant, but those 2 things have been eating at me lately. There are still a lot or stories I enjoy. The last couple of big events from both Marvel and DC have just left me a little bitter. I'm hoping 52 will be different.Comment

LOL, I don't know what is funnier, the upset people about this statue, the fact that the newscaster keeps calling it a doll, or the person this newsfeed decided to bring in as their comic expert

The statue is like $125, I don't think many little kids are going to be buying this thing and keeping it under their sheets.Last edited by aukevin; 05-23-2007, 09:03 AM.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Oh man there's a lot wrong with this MSNBC clip.
As you mentioned it's a statuette and costs 125 bucks. I doubt a little kid is gonna get their parents to buy it. Actually it kinda seems like an odd pose for a Mary Jane statue but that's besides the point.
Next, the anchor is complaining about this statuette when it's very tame compared to the way women are portrayed in comic books. I read a while ago about the solicitations for this month or next month for DC and one of the covers has Powergirl on it with such humongous breasts that they were just about to pop out! The sad fact is, I heard that the writer of said comic actually requested the artist to make the breasts smaller. I shudder to think how big PG's breasts were in the original rendering.
Heck, during the whole 1990s women were running around barely clothed in comics and I don't seem to recall news reports about THAT which I think is a little more reasonable to gripe about.
I also had to laugh about how they showed MJ's first appearance in reference to the statue. I bet MJ looks a lot closer to the statue these days then her wholesome look back when she debuted.
Oh yeah, the guy being interviewed? Major dorkMember of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Bump. Can anybody recommend any good TPBs involving The Joker?
I have Killing Joke and The Long Halloween and one of the archives hardcover books which includes some of the Jokers first appearances, but that is all. I've heard Batman: Arkham Asylum is really good, but thats all.
Also, whats up with Batman & Robin: All Star? How far along are they?

As for BAR:AS I believe it's only up to the 7th issue. That series has been ridiculously slow in coming.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

You ever read The Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told?

7th issue? I think stopped buying them after the 3rd issue and that was over a year ago? I guess I'll wait for the TPB.
