That was superman 3. I loved that scene as well, as a kid.

Nope that's 3 which was far too comedic for my tastes. I thought Richard Pryor was the only saving grace of that film.

4 is the one where they let Reeves take over and he had Superman rid the world of nuclear weapons. It was horribly lame and preachy.

BIG SPOILERS, so don't read if you haven't seen the movie

So I guess this kid belongs to Superman, I kinda saw that coming, and I originally thought that he would have been conceived during Superman II when Superman gives up his powers in the fortress. That could be why the kid's powers aren't reliable. But if that was truely when it happened, that would mean that Clark's mind-erasing kiss at the end of II did not last and Lois knows that Clark is Superman. Nothing in this movie showed that Lois has the foggiest idea that Clark is Superman. I believe that Superman and Lois had a night together sometime offscreen, whether it is the night that Lois wrote her "My night with Superman" article about or not, I don't know. This was the article Lois writes in the first movie, but I don't believe that first interview night was the night the boy was conceived. I think it had to be sometime offscreen between the movies, but this movie makes it out to be that night. The kid was the only aspect of the movie I really didn't get or like because of all these questions. Also because the kid wasn't very important in this movie, so why was this story started by Singer? I do think Singer must have something in his mind to further this story that he thinks will turn out awesome and the kid in this movie just starts it. I was actually hoping the kid wouldn't make it through this movie though....

            END SPOILERS

Of course these are just my thoughts one day after the movie.

              Interesting Superman facts:
[For the first two seasons of the 1950's TV show George Reeves' Superman costume was actually colored brown (for red) and grey (for blue) so that it would show up better on black-and-white TV. When the series went to color a red and blue costume was made to match the look of the comic books.]

[Reeves and other main cast members were paid $200 per episode until they nagged the producers enough to get a $50 raise to $250.]

I know about this fact but I wonder if there's a colour photo of that uniform. I'd love to see that odd mismash of colours.

                    Minor Spoiler:

my only complaint about the plane scene was that when he started changing from clark to superman was that you didnt see the full transformation. the old movies drew it out and did it better, imo. in returns, you see him rip the shirt and then all of a sudden hes in the sky. i would have liked it to be a bit more drawn out for the first superman scene, it would have made it more dramatic.

                    it was still sweet though.

Even with inflation they only peaked out at $250 X 8 (approximate inflation adjustment)=$2000 per episode, still good for about $50 grand a year.

                            HOLY SH%$T!!!!

                            What an awesome movie!

My post is going to probably end up being spoiler heavy so read at your own peril.

The movie grabbed me right from the beginning with the John Williams music and the original letter font in the credits. Singer did a tremendous job of keeping the same tone as the first two movies while being edgy and sophisicated enough to resonate with the modern movie goer.

I really loved all the little homages to previous itterations of Superman. The one iconic scene that hit home for me was the re-interpretation of the scene where Clark discovers he can fly and all that. The other iconic scene that was well done was the photo of Supes holding up the car in the exact same manner as ACTION #1.

Jimmy Olsen was played perfectly with just enough pep without being annoying as all hell. I didn't think the portrayal of Perry White was very good. I can understand why they toned down his catankerous attitude because of J. Jonah Jameson in the Spidey flicks.

Spacey's Luthor was perfect IMO. He had a level of contempt for his flunkies that was just classic while at the same time being a lot more calculated and coniving then Hackman's version. Spacey's Luthor had a quiet evil to him which gives his more animated scenes some resonance.

The story was superb but if there's one thing I have to say about it is that I think Singer overplayed his hand a bit. It seemed he wanted to run the gamut of every emotion and the whole "Superman nearly dies" stuff could've been saved for one of the sequels.

I agree with aukevin (I think) about the plane/space shuttle sequence. That was jaw droppingly good. Not only in terms of special F/X but also the way it hooked the viewer into the film. Oh, it looked like the Metropolis team was playing the Yankees there.

Ok now onto the kid part.....

It's clearly obvious that he's Supes' kid and that leaves us with many questions which I think is good. I can see the kid's storyline going in two ways.

                            1) He establishes his powers fully (it'll take the next 2 films I think) and become Superboy. It could be pretty good or very hokey. Of course WB would have to be willing to pay for the Superboy rights tho.

                            2) He establishes his powers and is somehow corrupted to go against Superman. Again it could be real good or turn into something a little cheesy.

Another thing that i'm not 100% enthusiastic about is the diefication of Supes but that's to be expected.

Overall I think this will be the best out of the new Superman movies. I just can't see Singer topping this. I see this as being VERY close to the original SUPERMAN but just falling short because i'm sentimental toward the original.

The only problem with Superboy (if you want to be technical) is that in the comics superboy is actually a clone of Superman, not his son.

Well considering this franchise is mostly based on the original franchise of movies, it's not that important.
