At my school, we aren't even allowed to use real footballs in gym anymore. We have to use those spongy NERF balls so people don't hurt themselves. It's pretty sad, actually. They might as well not even have recess if they are going to keep making rules like this. Give the kids more time to eat lunch and socialize or do homework/get extra help from the teachers.

From my understanding, kids still need parental permission to play afterschool sports. So I doubt this will happen.

This is hilarious. The same parents that want 'Tag' banned are probably the same parents that buy "Grand Theft Auto" for their 8 year old.

Pretty soon kids will only be allowed to stand still during recess.

That's rediculous! I'm sure everyone here can say the same, but I had countless bruises and cuts from playing as a kid. Nobody ever cried about it and most didn't even notice till they got home.

Isn't that part of the fun of being a kid? At least a boy anyway, beating the crap out of each other? I remember that all the guys in my grade when I was in elementary school would have phases of sports we would play at recess. We would beat the crap out of each other playing football, and eventually after a few weeks football it would devolve into a game where the object was the same as football except the rules were thrown out the window and you just had to get the ball into the end zone any way possible and that became the most incredibly violent game anyone could imagine. Then, my personal favourite we would play was "foot hockey" whch was basically soccer with a tennis ball played in a much smaller area. Where we played it was at a corner of the school and there was a wall of the building that extended out on one side of the area that everyone would always body-check people into. Add to that there was playground equipment right beside the strip of concrete we played on that for some reason was filled with pebbles instead of sand, and so pebbles would be all over the concrete outside of the playground area and people would always get a spray of pebbles any time anyone kicked the ball, and people would fall all the time because it was like running on marbles. I remember one time this big girl that used to play with us hip checked this poor kid and flipped him and he landed hard. The kid was walking around stiff and dazed the rest of the day, but never once told any teachers that he was messed up because he got hit hard playing foot hockey. And you know, there were very few fights, and we were very good at policing conflicts as a group. I can't imagine kids not being able to play like we did because that's about all I remember from elementary school.

Hahaha! That sounds a lot like what we did. Soccer became full contact soccer as did European handball in gym.

I feel bad for kids these days. They can't do anything.

I don't think you understand how it works...The school has an insurance company so when they get sued they are protected from having to pay the lawsuit.

Plus its not the individual school, but the school board for that area, which could have a lot of schools.

Totally agree. Been happening for some time now. I shudder to think of what this country and the people in leadership positions will be like when I'm over 65, if I make it that far.

The other part that gets me is the yet another example of "fear of liability." Why can't we take a cue from some European countries that make the person suing pay if they lose their lawsuit? Think that would deter some people from doing it? You sue McDonalds for a billion dollars because your dumb*** spilled hot coffee in your lap and burned Mr. Happy. But you lose the lawsuit because the judge thinks you're a dumb*** too. Well, your dumb*** and the lawyer who talked you into it owes someone a billion dollars. Crude example but still...

Banning tag? Yeah great idea when childhood obesity is an epidemic....great plan, have them run less. Can you guys imagine how fat this nation will be in 40 years with these sorts of things? I'm about 50-60 pounds overweight which i've put on in my 30's and I wasn't fat in the LEAST as a kid. If you see kids now they're almost all fat, what will they look like by the time they're 40 years old?

Scary thought...glad I won't be around to see it....Walmart better stock up on about 10x more of those powered scooters...
