When you look at the novel, you can tell that the movie took every little detail of it and put it to film. The color and 'darkness' of every page, the yellowish tone to everything.

And yes, it is like a comic book. Think of '300' as a widescreen comic book, as the book is HUGE (about the size of my laptop) and very cinematic.

Question for you--is there anyone that saw this movie and liked it but didn't like Sin City? I'm interested in this movie, but I hated Sin City (never read his novels, which is probably why).

Well, here's what I said in my impressions (and I hope it helps):

All in all, if I were to compare this to Sin City... well, first of all, they are rather incomparable. 300 and Sin City are two completely different movies, with only some similar cinematic elements. Some narration here and there, the known presence of Frank Miller... but the rest really makes them two completely separate types of movies. As much as I liked this movie, I will personally give the nod to Sin City as the better movie. I think it was just more my type. While 300 follows a strict and progressive storyline, Sin City is much more poetic, and I think that bias kicks in when I see Bruce Willis on screen and Jessica Alba on a pole. I also don't think that 300 delivered as much of a powerful message in the non-fighting scenes as I had expected, where Sin City exceeded my expectations in that department.

If you liked Braveheart then you will like this movie. It has a very similar story line. I really liked it and can't wait to see it again!

if you like good graphics in your video games, and/or good visuals in your movies...then you will probably like this movie. The visuals are very unique.

and the story is pretty good also. It was definetely better than Sin City imo (maybe because i like the type of history that 300 was talking about, although the movie wasnt all historical because they put some fantasy aspects into it as well, but despite the fantasy aspects the story line was based on history)

My problem with Sin City is that it was just over the top gross for the most part. Now I don't have a problem with that if the movie advertises that, but all the promos showed this cool film with color splashed throughout. The other part I didn't like about Sin City is the story wasn't all that great apart from the willis parts. I don't mind violence in movies, but I don't really need to see people's heads mounted on walls.

Some people actually believe that the part where he kicks the Persian down the well is because the Persian is black. If anyone saw the movie, he did it because he brought the heads of conquered kings to Sparta. Which you simply don't do.
Those people are idiots. The Greeks were proud people and still are to this day. When an enemy comes to your doorstep especially with the heads of conquered kings do you think someone is just going to sit there and be like go right ahead and take our city. By kicking them into the well, what they were telling the messengers is that they must "Dig it out for themselves" (Earth & Water). Many other cities in Greece did the same to the messengers, threw them the messengers into a well.

We finally saw this movie today and was it simply amazing. I couldn't believe the visuals were so good and the story was put together so well. Being able to see a movie based on history with my culture that I read about when I was younger and in college made it that more enjoyable for me.

Saw it on saturday and liked it.

VERY funny moment though...one guy got up and yelled out "hey, is this movie gay porn or what?!" half way through it...

I must say this movie had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning.

It was great!! No i mean it was GREAT!

Loved the bronze coloring of the film. Man it was just exciting throughout all of the action.

A friend who saw it on another occassion came to the conclusion that there will be a part two. While I don't think so, what do you guys think?
