Re: Frank Miller's 300
My friend from Berkeley saw it last night as well and said that it was awesome. He's on OS, but maybe has 2 posts. So, he counts.
And I see it tomorrow evening, so hopefully I'll give an early review as well.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Frank Miller's 300
Just got back from seeing it (no spoilers):
****ing badass! The action scenes were flat out awesome! Wave after wave of nonstop brutality really did it for the 1,000 people in the theater watching the movie. Not many chances to look away from the screen, let alone blink at those times. There is a very breathtaking one shot sequence that seriously almost made the movie for me; it was that special.
The beginning will draw out a little bit to give you a story and character introduction, but after that it's gloriousness in full effect. There will be one more slow-paced part drawing near the end, but that was more or less expected. There were also some scenes that I would deem unnecessary and just some characters that I would consider very unusual, so much in the sense that it killed me ever buying this to watch with my parents. My dad would just wonder why I would be getting him to watch it (hard to explain... don't take that statement too strongly).
All in all, if I were to compare this to Sin City... well, first of all, they are rather incomparable. 300 and Sin City are two completely different movies, with only some similar cinematic elements. Some narration here and there, the known presence of Frank Miller... but the rest really makes them two completely separate types of movies. As much as I liked this movie, I will personally give the nod to Sin City as the better movie. I think it was just more my type. While 300 follows a strict and progressive storyline, Sin City is much more poetic, and I think that bias kicks in when I see Bruce Willis on screen and Jessica Alba on a pole. I also don't think that 300 delivered as much of a powerful message in the non-fighting scenes as I had expected, where Sin City exceeded my expectations in that department.
300 definitely lives up to the hype, however. I'm not surprised about RT's overall score, because I can see where some people just don't care about the movie like others. But chances are, they weren't caring much for it to begin with. What you see in the trailer is the kind of movie that you should expect. I highly recommend this film to anyone that was interested in the trailer, and it's definitely one to see in the theater.

Re: Frank Miller's 300
I haven't seen a movie in the theater in a LONG time(Blockbuster Total Access) but I may make an exception for this movie.How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.Comment

Re: Frank Miller's 300
I don't understand the question. Is this a 1 to 10 thing?
* * * * SEX CONTENT SPOILERS AHEAD * * * *
If you remember the woman from the trailer with those smoke trails all around her, you get to see her nipple. There is also a few slow shots of a man and woman (won't say who) having sex in I think three different positions. There is a shot of a guy's *** (again, won't say who). And then there are also a few nude women with jewels covering their jewels. I considered these scenes to be "completely unnecessary" and offered nothing to the film's story.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
