    Re: *** American Idol: Season 6 ***

    Gina's exit interview from mtv
MTV brings viewers the best in lifestyle and competition reality shows, plus live events featuring the biggest names in entertainment.

Q: Was it tough to see Sanjaya place higher than you?

A: It's tough that all the other eight people did — it's not just Sanjaya. He's just different. It's not that he's better or worse — he's Sanjaya. And Jordin's Jordin, and Blake is Blake. America was through with me, and I'm fine with it. I'm going on tour!

Q: Are there any bad feelings among the other "Idol" contestants about Sanjaya?

A: I'm friends with Sanjaya, so they know that if they're going to badmouth him, they shouldn't do it in front of me.

    Q: What is Sanjaya like?

A: He's exactly what you see on TV. He doesn't care what anyone thinks, he does his thing, and he's proud of himself. And I love that self-confidence.

MagicBucs - I'm starting to get a little concerned with the Sanjaya Mancrush. Do we need to have an OS American Idol intervention?

haha, Part of it is because ive liked him since his audition and now that hes becoming a household name, and more and more people are jumping on the wagon each week I like the fact ive been a 'fanjaya' for a while. Ofcourse im one of those who usually likes something when its not as popular then move onto something else once the bandwagon gets overcrowded. The only things I can think of right now that I havent switched are taking back sunday and c.m. punk. Ill like that band, and wrestler no matter how popular they ever get.

The main reason though is the fact I have 2 people here at work that absolutly despise the kid. I mean they dont even do it in a nice joking way, these ladies literally seem like they are ready to punch a wall with the way they talk so upsettingly about sanjaya and him still being there. Hes apparently "ruining the show." I just look at them and im like "hes not that bad" and its to the point that I can hardly even admit to them of being a real fan because they treat me like im just as pathetic when I say "hes not that bad."

If...the mast majority didn't think that, what's up with the jaded publicity and the smart cracks from the AI celebs, including Ryan? How many articles do you see from the critics stating Mali can keep up with the other contestants? About all I'm seeing is"yeah, the young girls like him-or-he's helping ratings".......... Chris-IMO- (the one who got booted before Gina) Is sevenfold better than Mali.
It is even quite possible Howard Stern's dry wit could be playing a factor here to some extent. Say what you will, but Howard has a larger following than you probably think. Plus, the hype makes Mali "flavor of the month". Flavor of the month pays the bills at Fox too. Added note: I don't despise him,I just think he has no business making it as far as he did. Not even in the top 20.

I think this says A LOT for Howard Sterns following. The fact that he can not only have his listeners almost single-handedly influence the American Idol vote, but that he switched to Sattellite radio and should be on a smaller audience.

Melinda sure can sing !! IMO, she's in the top two on the show in that area. But that "Deer Caught in Headlights" look she has on her face when not singing is distracting. I find myself wondering if Simon or Randy just exposed themselves to her, LOL !!!

Howard Stern fans have very little to do with this as the # of people who vote for these things dwarf the Stern listeners who would vote. Stern has always tried to get his fans to vote for the weirdest contestants in years past and that has meant nothing.

The teenybopper girls who watch this show by the millions are responsible for this. For many of them the show is there life and they have the time and inclination to call multiple times to influence the voting. Call it the "Titanic" effect. That movie is way above any other movie in terms of worldwide gross earnings because teenage girls would get together by the boatload every friday and saturday night at the theater to croon over Leo. When I saw Titanic about 2 months after it came out in the theater 80% of the audience were teenage girls in large groups all crying together. That movie was #1 for something like 15 straight weeks which is unheard of especially for a 3 hour movie and it's mainly because the average 16 year old girl probably saw it like 10 times.

Trust me the show now realizes the best thing to happen is for Sanjaya to win or at least be in the top 3 because of ratings but more importantly to sign him to a recording contract because this guy is now guaranteed money for them in terms of album sales because of the teenybopper factor. That demographic is the most desired in the industry because they're rabid fans in terms of attending shows and merchendise. The Backstreet Boys, NSync, Britney Spears are perfect examples of no talent but big moneymakers just like the Bay City Rollers, New Kids on the Block and Leif Garret were back in the 70's and 80's. I'd be shocked if Sanjaya doesn't win and I'm willing to bet that he's probably #1 in votes every week by a large margin.

Agreed, My father who can care less about AI or Howard Stern is actually openly cheering Sanjaya on so there's gotta be something more then the "vote for the suckiest/weirdest" contestant thing going on here. I dunno, the kid does have a charm to him that drives the teeny bopper crowd wild but it just reinforces my belief that talent barely matters anymore as long as you can be a PR creation you'll be popular.

Let's be honest when has talent ever really mattered for shows like these. It's all about presence and charisma which this kid seems to have in spades. Music engineers just press a few buttons and they can make the worst singers sound like Sinatra on an album and in concert.

People like Britney, Ashlee Simpson, Timberlake and pretty much any member of any teeny girl or boy band that has ever existed can't sing to save thier lives. Look at that Spice Girls. A big deal was made about that sporty spice chick because she was the only one who could actually hold a note in that horrid group.
