'Shoot 'Em Up' Announced for Blu-ray

New Line Home Entertainment is kicking off its high-def New Year with the action-fest 'Shoot 'Em Up,' which it will debut on Blu-ray January 1.

Starring Oscar nominees Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti, the crime thriller about a rogue gunman who must protect a housewife from a crazed assassin didn't do a bang up at the box office, scoring a meager domestic gross of just $12 million.

New Line will give the flick another "shot" on January 1, when it debuts the film on Blu-ray day-and-date with the standard-def DVD. (In what is becoming a familiar refrain, the studio is holding off the HD DVD release of 'Shoot 'Em Up' due to region-coding concerns, but will announce a street date for that format sometime next year.)

Tech specs have not yet been set for 'Shoot 'Em Up,' but bonus features are set to include an audio commentary with the filmmakers, the "Ballet of Bullets" documentary, deleted scenes, and the film's theatrical trailer.

MSRP for the Blu-ray version is $39.99.

Transformers HD DVD review up. Sounds like tons of extras, all in HD.

This HD DVD is an impressive effort from Paramount. The transfer is very strong, and despite a lack of high-res audio, the Dolby Digital track still manages to earn a perfect five-star score. Finally, this two disc set is filled with extras that are both substantive and cutting-edge, boasting quality content and some genuine advancements in web-enabled technology. While there are some chinks in the armor here and there, this is certainly a top tier HD DVD release that's a must-own for fans of the film, and an easy recommend for anyone desiring some over-the-top demo material.

The audio portion amazes me, it's not PCM or TRUE HD, and it got a 5 star rating. WOW!!!

Come on, it's just explosions and metal crunching...not much to screw up. No fine soundtrack melodies, discrete voices, etc. here!

Of course my TV is out of commission for a few days, so the 1080p HD-DVD viewing will have to wait.

Retailers Offer Two-For-One Deal on Select Disney Blu-ray Discs

Good news for Blu-ray fans: a number of leading retailers are participating in a new "buy one, get one free" deal on select Blu-ray discs from Disney.

The week-long sale kicked off Sunday in-store at Best Buy and Circuit City, and online at Amazon.com.

Although the sale inventory appears to differ somewhat from retailer to retailer, among the discs included are such fan favorites as 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,' 'Apolocalypto' and 'The Prestige.'

Sources say the sale is scheduled to run while supplies last through this Saturday, October 20.

FYI, for those HD DVD Owners. Circuit City is also doing a BOGO for HD DVD. Movies must be under $30.00 to qualify

I was just at CC and didn't notice the bogo for HD DVD anywhere...
On side note maybe it is just my best buy but there HD dvd selection is like two racks compared to blu-ray 4 or 5 racks? What gives....

From what I have gathered is it isn't a company wide sale..some stores will have it some wont

movies have to be 29.99 or under to qualify, there are no in store advertisements or anything...I'm gonna ride to the one closest to me in the morning and see if i can get transformers and something else..so good luck and maybe a store near you will have it
