I've had it since July-ish and it's been great for me. I use it when watching regular DVD's mostly, because I haven't bought a ton of HD-DVD's yet (slowly acquiring a collection), but I like the drive better than the regular 360 one, seems quieter (it may just be in my head lol).

Yeah, he said he watches regular DVD's, he likes the HD-DVD add one better than the regular 360 one.

Re-reading it, I can see how you can take it the other way though, but he quoted me saying about the add-on, and I personally know he has the add on

              Reading is fundamental.

Plus there is no point of playing movies on your 360 as that will just put unnecessary wear and tear on the drive.

Yeah, i just mean when I watch a regular DVD I could theoretically either use the built-in DVD drive on the 360, or the add-on HD-DVD drive. I just stick to using the add-on, and I swear it sounds quieter than when I play games. Maybe it's in my head, I dunno.

But yeah, right now I use the 360 add-on drive as my exclusive DVD player.

Review for the Spidey trilogy on BD.

Only going to be $60.99 at Best Buy this week. $4 cheaper than Amazon. BB cheaper than Amazon on a high def disc...I think that's a first.

Depending on tax, they probably break even. I agree though, BB is never cheaper, maybe they will finally "get it"

I was shocked when I saw that in the ads on Friday, CC is charging $80..........they are truly smoking something.

Circuit City, Amazon Join $198 HD DVD Player Club (UPDATED)

Wal-Mart isn't the only retailer offering Toshiba's HD-A2 HD DVD player at the record low price of $198.

As we've previously reported, the discount retailer made headlines last week when it confirmed that it would carry Toshiba's second-gen 1080i HD DVD player for less than $200.

Now both Circuit City and Amazon.com have joined the fray, offering the same deck for a penny less (at $197.99). Even better, unlike Wal-Mart, both retailers have extended the discounted price on the HD-A2 to online sales.

At press time, it wasn't clear how long these retailers plan to stock the discounted player. We do know that Toshiba plans to release a new comparable entry-level third-gen player (the HD-A3) sometime in November.

Speaking with Fortune Magazine last week, a Wal-Mart spokesperson disputed earlier reports that the player would only be made available in limited number, saying "There are no limited quantities for stores or purchases."

Controversy Swirls Around 'Transformers' HD DVD Sales Numbers

Is Paramount's HD DVD release of 'The Transformers' in fact the fastest selling next-gen title ever? It depends on who you believe.

As we've previously reported, Paramount sent out a press release last Monday boasting of record-breaking sales for 'Transformers' on HD DVD. The studio estimated 100,000 units sold the first day, and 190,000 for the first week, making the disc the fastest selling title on either next-gen format.

Since then, sales estimates for the title have come in from two different sales tracking services that would seem contradict Paramount's numbers.

As we first reported on Friday, Home Media Magazine estimates the actual number of units sold through to consumers for the week as closer to 115,000. Meanwhile, according to an online report from Deadline Hollywood, Videoscan point-of-sale data is said to put the disc at only 89,871 units sold.

So, which number is correct? Speaking with Deadline Hollywood, one unnamed Paramount executive suggested it may be all three, attributing the discrepencies between the numbers to units sold by "nontraditional" retailers.

"What they're saying to you is factually correct that the top 3 accounts sold 74,000 units. No disputing that," explained the exec. "The mistake they're making is they're underestimating the units sold by nontraditional retailers like Amazon.com, Netflix, and Blockbuster Online."

In the same report, another unnamed exec (this time from a Blu-ray supporting studio) called Paramount's assertion of Amazon, Netflix and Blockbuster Online being underestimated "patently untrue," stating that "both Amazon and Blockbuster are included in the Nielsen reporting -- and they know it. If those 3 outlets accounted for even 30K copies, it would be record-setting for them, yet Par would still be significantly off the 190,000 number."

For its part, Paramount continues to stand by its original numbers, telling Deadline Hollywood that they checked and double-checked their figures before issuing last week's press release, and that "everything we said is 100% accurate."
Seems like every high-profile blu-ray and HD DVD release has some major spin put on the numbers. Transformers, Casino Royale, Planet Earth, 300, The Departed, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc.

Those Warner rumors have been going around since the Paramount deal. I just wish we had 1 format sometimes, it doesn't matter if its Blu or HD-DVD at this point. This is a war that won't end anytime soon, especially now that Toshiba's sub market players are going to be under $200. If the Chinese players arrive at around $150, this should get interesting.
