I've never been so disappointed in a format just dying. I had a lot of eggs in the HD-DVD basket, and was a proud supporter of it. But I've jumped off, and will be replacing my movies on Blu-ray eventually, no matter how ridiculous that sounds.

Thats why you buy a warranty. I bought the 5000 yesterday with a 4 yr repair warranty. If it breaks BB will repair it. If it dies after the 4th yr, I will either repair it or go bluray and replace all of my HD-DVDs (about 20) w/ Bluray. Hopefully by then all of those HD exclusive titles will be released on Bluray.

Its a whole lot of worrying about nothing imo.

Don't put too much stock into this. We've already seen Samsung falter and some of you guys were counting on them to deliver.

Now you're counting on LG. It seems to me like you guys are hanging by a thin thread.

The key thing to think about is by the time you're ready to replace your media, you won't be spending as much to do so as if you did it now. Just remember that and you guys should be ok.

I'm not counting on anybody. I'm not an HD guy or a Bluray guy. I have both. I have 20-30 HD-DVDs and about the same number of blurays.

The difference is LG committed to making more combo players after the Toshiba announcement. Samsung's announcement about new combo players was made even before the Warner to Bluray announcement. I have no doubt that LG will release another combo player because its good business sense. If things stay the way they are, LG will be the only company supporting both formats with combo players. There are a million plus consumers who have HD and would or have considered a combo player an option. I dont think that LG will produce these players in high numbers but there is a market and they would be stupid not to try to make money in that market.

As an HD-DVD owner you're counting on someone to continue to produce hardware to support your already purchased media, no?

If LG is the only person in the game and they pull out, what are you going to do?

I bought the Samsung 5000 last night to see if I like it and so far so good. I havent had a hiccup with any of the discs I played last night. I have a 4 yr repair warranty on it so im good for 4 yrs. If BB is unable to repair it and LG or another company isnt making combo players than I have 2 options: Look on Ebay for a used Samsung or LG combo player or replace my hd-dvds w/ bluray. By then I should be able to find those discs for low prices.

To those who continue to preach that folks with HD DVDs should "abandon ship" so to speak.

Honestly...why do you care?

You are dumping all of your HD DVDs...you are selling off your players...We get it. Congrats.

But considering that to replace my HD DVDs..which have cost me around 10-12 dollars each with Blu Rays...which cost 3-4 times as much...or to buy a Blu Ray player...which is another 400 dollars or so....it's more than worth my time to simply KEEP my HD DVD collection.

I have two players and seriously doubt both will suddenly quit working. There is already a company committed to making a dual player..if you don't believe they will... big freaking deal ....it's not your concern.

Heck...I can pick up a top of the line Toshiba A3 player for 60 bucks on Ebay right now and keep it in storage so if by chance my players DO go out....I have a reserve in tow to continue to enjoy my HD DVD library 5, 6, 7 years down the road.

That is well worth both the time and $$$ I have invested in HD DVD. And honestly....no concern of yours.

I applaud you, personally...it's a great idea, just not what I want to do. I've got a few HD-DVD's, but now that Blu-Ray has won I just want one format. It makes complete financial sense to do what you're doing, I'm just lazy and don't want to deal with it (having a lot in each format) now and in the future.

If I were you I would pick up the Toshiba A3 when it's that cheap and store it (or use it even)...in a year or two I bet the prices will jack back up if HD-DVD users need replacements or extra players.

Probably not anytime soon. Again, if you want to go BR you go PS3. That was Sony's evil plan all along for world domination.

I agree but I can see where AA is coming from. Some of the comments can be read as "HD-DVD is dead, I'm selling my HD stuff and only an idiot would support a dead format."
