I personally see it as banter from everyone's corner. We have no real effect on what anyone else does... so why not just share your opinions... and take them as such...

Agree with you, but it is the same reason why this site jocks Madden for the first two weeks, no one wants to admit they just blew $60 when they should have been smarter about their purchase....

Whether or not you supported one format or the other, finally having a victor is huge.

This only benefits us all. Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, and so many other movies now have a greater chance of being released now we have one clear winner in this dumb format war.

I dont think anyone is saying that. I havent seen one person post anything like that. There are people in two camps: People who dont want to keep their HD players and discs and people who are willing to keep their players or buy combo players. Neither group is wrong.

No, there are motives. And a strong motive (not the only one) to continue to support a dead format, as others did before with beta and laserdisc, is to not want to admit the consumer chose poorly and wasted money.

This format war was about as easy to predict as Lewis-Tyson.

But it doesn't matter who was right or who was wrong or what business plan or product is better, because all that matters is as consumers we have one format. And that is huge!

I know a lot of you are still going to support HD-DVD's and what not.

I just can't see it. Only one company will be making players in the dual format player, and that's LG. What happens if LG pulls out? In a year or 2 if your player dies, what do you do then? Not a shot, just a serious question.

I've never been so disappointed in a format just dying. I had a lot of eggs in the HD-DVD basket, and was a proud supporter of it. But I've jumped off, and will be replacing my movies on Blu-ray eventually, no matter how ridiculous that sounds.

Are you selling all your HD-DVD's and HD-DVD player Scott??

I really disagree with that. I honestly didnt care who one because I've been dual format for a few months now but lets not act like one format was clearly better than the other. Shoot if Warner decided to go HD exclusive (like they were close to going before CES) we would be talking about HD winning. Would you be saying the same thing? I know its a hypothetical but no one could have predicted who would have one until after CES.

Exactly, even with better sales it could have easily gone the other way. I went HD-DVD b/c of the price and that will only get better now that it's discontinued. I'll take the going rate of $10-12 per movie all day long.

I can't understand the people that paid $25+ per HD-DVD only to sell them for $10-12 b/c HD-DVD lost....then proceed to repurchase them if/when they go blu at the premium blu ray price just to say I have all my movies on one format. Audio might be better (if you have top-notch audio gear) but the PQ of the movie itself will be the same.

Never understood the logic.

How can there be motives if a person decides to continue to purchase HD DVD's or a dead product? aholbert is format neutral and wants to enjoy both formats with a combo player for years to come. I am format neutral, yes, I did just offload a few discs on ebay from HD DVD that I knew I wasn't going to watch again just to get some money back.................but, but, when are my favorite Universal titles that I have on HD DVD going to come on Blu-ray? If you can answer that, than I can move on dumping those discs. It could take up to 2 years or more.

Probably not anytime soon. Again, if you want to go BR you go PS3. That was Sony's evil plan all along for world domination.

Right and BR has won the format war, but now it has to shift its focus to SD-DVDs and players. In order to win over those consumers, BR is going to have to come up with something to add to the PS3 in the BR player line-up - such as a reliable, cheap SAL.

Eventually, all I own now are Paramount and Universal HD-DVD's, along with 2-3 WB that are HD-DVD only (Batman, V for Vendetta). I'm going to play it by ear, and use the HD-DVD add on as my "dvd player" for now. As movies come out on BD, I will be getting the counterpart.

Like others said they can't understand how I can spend X amount on HD-DVD to sell it, then to rebuy on BD for X amount of money, I can't justify keeping hold onto a dead format. It's just not me, I get to anal to have say Batman on HD-DVD and The Dark Knight on BD.

Just my OCD with my movies.

Just finished watching American Gangster and it looked pretty good, what I cant understand is how they have an extra 20 minutes or so on the SD side but not the HD side, was it that difficult to put it on the superior side of the disc? And I can also say without any hesitancy that I will be glad that the combo discs are dead, it was the worst idea that somehow seemed to dodge death, thankfully not this time. Lastly, in regards to this movie, they really needed to put more extra features on the disc, I wanted to see more information on the real Frank Lucas and what happened between when he got out of prison and now, more interviews and whatnot but they really didnt have anything like that.

Now in terms of keeping the HD movies or selling, I cant sell them, I have far too many movies that may never come out on BR and if they do it may not be for a real long time, movies like the Borune series, Anchorman, Old School, 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Lucky # Slevin etc. I couldnt see selling them for a fraction of what it would take to replace them, not to mention American Gangster, just not very cost efficient for me.

Paramount Goes Blu

The last domino of the format war has fallen: Paramount has officially announced it will align with Blu-ray and begin releasing titles on the format.

"We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer," the studio said via a statement issued Wednesday to The Hollywood Reporter.

"As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."

The studio did not issue any further details regarding a timeframe for the transition, nor any specific title announcements.

I think we will, but I guess in a way I am very glad that this war is over with so we can move on to one format taking over. I'm still torn and sad about it, but its part of life.
