Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Cosign. People love to clown Sony about their "failed" formats, but completely ignore DVDs and CDs.
UMD may have failed from a movie perspective, but it's still used for PSP games, that's not really a failure. Just a proprietary format.
Minidiscs were popular as hell outside of the US.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
RockyTop, EG, and BigFnJoe........now I know what you guys were talking about HD-DVD's being so good. I received my A2 today and have watched Pitch Black and Batman Begins so far and holy crap! My only complaint so far is that the remote is rather crap or cheap feeling and updating to the latest firmware upgrade can be a hassle.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 03-14-2007, 07:59 PM.Comment

Warner Total HD discs to begin appearing in June
www.HomeMediaMagazine.com covers breaking news about the home entertainment industry. News on Blu-ray, high-definition, electronic delivery, TV DVD, and video games, including studios and retailer news, industry event photos, polls, commentary & information.
Warner’s Total HD, a combined HD DVD and Blu-ray disc, will be ready for the market by June, said Dominick DallaVerde, senior director of HD operations, new technology and applications for Cinram. That will be a disc with a 15GB HD DVD on one side and a 25GB Blu-ray disc on the other. A higher capacity HD DVD 30GB/Blu-ray 25GB will be ready to ship by August, he said.
Whatever..if this is what it takes for The Matrix Trilogy in HD, I'll take a flipper.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Blu-ray the HD format to beat, HD-DVD to be abandoned.
[Notable quotes]
"If you look at the top 25 selling DVDs last year, 23 were released on Blu-ray," Fox's Feldstein says. "Just two were exclusive to HD DVD."
Blu-ray may triumph over HD DVD in the near future, but analyst Casey says it will take five years or more to overtake the hugely popular standard DVD format. DVD discs are currently cheaper (Blu-ray discs retail between $30 and $40) and represent nearly 99 percent of all video sales, while DVD machines are available for well under $100.
"In four or five years, broadband speeds will have increased to the point where downloading movies and burning them to a disc becomes much more easy and appealing than going out and buying a disc for many consumers," analyst Casey says.
"Retailers will pull the plug on HD DVD sometime next year."D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Hey guys. I'm new to the HD movie party. Finally broke down and decided to get a 360 w/ the HD player add on. I just used buy.com to get Bourne Supremecy for $13 via the google checkout.
Is it possible to use the google checkout more than once? thanks.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
If Blu Ray wants to win this, they have to release better stuff than this.
Hoosiers is retailing at $40... The $10 2 disc DVD I bought about 2 years ago, has a ton of features, including the orignal 1954 Muncie Championship game on it. All that's on this disc is the original trailer. I mean, come on MGM. This movie is a classic, and you don't restore it, nor do you port any features overy. Yet, still charge $40....Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I think both HD formats are shooting themselves in the foot. With Warner doing the Blu-ray/HD combo, it kind of defeats the purpose of tracking how well either format has penetrated the market. Meaning, there's less incentive for either format to cave, and thus less incentive for the consumer to buy into either of the two. Additionally, they're driving prices up with these DVD/HD-DVD and Blu/HD-DVD combo discs making the standard def DVD's that much more attractive.
I have HD-DVD, and I really love the PQ on most HD-DVD's. However, I hate the lack of studio support for the format. The reason I bought into it was because it was the cheapest of the two to buy into, and I'd like to see HD now (I've been waiting for this for a few years at least, and I really hate the offerings on HD movie channels especially since most of the movies are cropped instead of original aspect ratio). If Blu-ray comes out with a player that's cheap enough, I'm definitely getting that too, because I would love to see movies like Casino Royale and Pirates of the Caribbean in HD.Last edited by neovsmatrix; 03-16-2007, 12:50 PM.Comment
