      Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

This hasn't been confirmed 100% yet, but it seems like Toshiba has CANCELLED Sunday's CES press conference...

CES HD DVD Event canceled due to Warner announcement I just received an email from the HD DVD Promotion Group stating that the CES 2008 HD DVD press event has been canceled. The recent Blu-ray exclusive announcement from Warner is cited as the reason for the cancellation. You can find the full text

Just imagine how many people this past Christmas opened up their new HD-DVD players excited that they are in HDM and now when they find out what has happened they will be upset (not everybody).

I give it 6-12 months before HD-DVD is completely dead unless Universal over the weekend or next week goes Blu.

          Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

I have about 12 HD-DVD's and 5 Blu-Rays. I will buy Blu-Ray only from this point forward. As will a lot of people who keep up with this mess. This really screws not only Toshiba over, but Microsoft too. If by chance HD-DVD falls through, that will render the xbox 360 useless for playing movies. Of course you will still be able to play the ones you have now, but for the future it puts MS in a bind.

If Blu-Ray does win the war, this will be huge for the PS3. I would expect to see sales jump. The plot thickens.................

            Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread

I don't see the volume of HDM sales to considerably increase for a long time after this though. The "war" may be over but its going to be a few years before Blu-ray is a part of the public vernacular as DVD has become.

Oh, I'd highly advise you to visit some of the forums for two reasons. Some HD-DVD supporters look like they just lost their dog and lots of Blu-ray supporters are cheering like their team just won the Super Bowl. I swear, these cats need to get out some more...

Who says Microsoft want offer a Blu-ray add-on? Peter Moore said they could if HD-DVD happened to lose the format war.

If MS wanted to win this and knock out Sony with their BD Player, they would have placed more efforts into this. They have been more busy with their downloadable HDM.

Engadget just confirmed it too. Looks like the war is close to being over.

I'm just happy this stupid format war is done. I don't know how much time I wasted reading dumb rumor after dumb rumor for something that won't have a significant impact in this country (or elsewhere) for a few years. I want those few months of my life where I paid attention to this stuff back!

Interesting news, cant say Im not glad though, the sooner this so called "war" ends the better it will be for HDM's in general. I support both formats as of right now, and actually have many more HD-DVD's then Blu-Ray movies thanks to just getting a PS3 this Christmas, but in the end I like the fact that I can stick a movie in my PS3 and not have to worry that it wont play, unlike nearly every single combo movie that came out on HD-DVD.

Im not sure why so many people, not necessarily just here, are quick to sell their HD-DVD player, if you have movies for it then why not keep the thing and continue to watch what you already have for it? I have 50-60 HD-DVD movies and Im not about to replace them on Blu-Ray so I might as well keep what I got and continue to watch those movies while growing my Blu-Ray collection. With this latest news I really hope that the frequent BR B1G1 etc. sales dont end, as much as they kill my bank account they sure do allow me to add to my collection at a much more reasonable price.

That's a good point- I only have 10 movies but those are 10 movies that I didn't have on standard-def and ones that I definitely won't rebuy (I'm a lot poorer than most of you lol)

Also, I absolutely could not watch my 200+ DVDs before I bought my A3 because I didn't have an upscaler. I simply refused to watch them because they looked real bad on my LCD. It's going to have a nice place on my entertainment center for at least the next few years.

LOL! Same here, these Warner rumors were running rampant for months.

Some people would prefer to have titles on 1 format and it makes sense since you have 1 less HDM player connected.

More power to them if they have the money to blow, this so called hobby can get really expensive and I would much rather add new titles to my collection instead of spending all that money to simply replace existing HD-DVD titles on BR, just doesnt make any financial sense to me.
