Yup. The A3 is a damn fine piece of machinery too. In fact, I used it last night to watch some of my SD-DVDs. IMHO it does at least as good an upconversion job as my bro's PS3 (haven't used it in a while b/c my bro is in Philly so not a great comparison) which makes it worth its price just based on that alone.

The upconversion is good on the A3, but I read even better on the XA2. I also like the sleek look of the A3 over the previous gen Toshiba HD players.

The only change I might make down the road, if any, is selling my A30 for a combo player, but that won't be for a year or so

I find this whole Warner jumping to BD more entertaining across the forums such as AVS and HDD, then the **** that went on in ours and DSM's forums after last weeks announcements.

I just found the best thread yet, even better than going back to SD-DVD:

"HD DVD fans: let's all switch to digital HD download, skipping BD!"

People are stubborn as hell. LOL!

An interesting leak of today is that Microsoft is going ahead with 3rd generation Xbox for launch at 2010 instead of delaying it until 2012 as previously hinted.

Obviously Microsoft was counting on HD-DVD as the optical drive of 3rd gen Xbox but we are in today's mess. DL50 BD-ROM does not meet Microsoft's needs even if the movie playback is disabled(No Java on Microsoft platform, ever) for following two reasons.

1. $30 or less drive price.
2. Ability to replicate 200 million discs a year.

BD-ROM DL50 fails on both accounts miserably, forcing Microsoft to look for alternatives, or even keep HD-DVD alive for the sole purpose of its use as a game storage ROM only.

The only thing that sucks is that pretty much all blu ray players are handicapped one way or another. Hopefully a firmware update can fix the PS3's lack of high end DTS support.

Anyone look for some good deals on HD-DVD's, check out ebay...........a lot of movies at the $12-13 range with $3-4 shipping.

Anything Toshiba is selling, I am not buying so I'll be glad if Blu-Ray wins. Besides, it will be good for PS3 sales which means better and more games.

...I really haven't been much for buying many Blu-Rays right now...seeing as though it's almost as much as a damn video game these days! Ebay...gotta love it!

Another great point.

If you're interested in a combo drive, that would make more sense if you don't own a PS3. It still makes the MOST sense to just get a PS3.

A year from now, that HD-DVD only player will be taking up space in your entertainment system. Remember Mini-disc? This kind of reminds me of that... people still buy CD's now and use them... but where are the Mini-discs? I don't know if anyone even owns them anymore.
