I'm just waiting to find a good deal on a Blu Ray player. Does anybody have any suggestions?

That is the problem there isn't! PS3 is the best for the price but then you have a ps3 which is not cheap. I got my A3 for 89.99 brand new!!!! And it never has problems like I hear that som blu players do. To bad HD DVD wasn't markted better and wasn't built into the xbox.

The only other good player out right now is the Panasonic BD30, but it goes for $499.

Any statement Toshiba makes regarding the end would be quite anticlimatic as I think everyone but Toshiba knows their done. This Bluray victory is so complete it's pointless even talking about a format war. It's non-existent, in all seriousness it's time to change the thread title "Official Blu-Ray Thread".

I'll just keep my addon around for a few more months and buy a combo player. Samsung will have 3 out by the end of the year.

Exactly. Again...I find it funny that folks are dumping movies at ridiculously low prices as if they are suddenly not going to work.

HD DVD discs are the SAME quality as a Blu Ray. And they'll make combo players that will allow you to keep watching them years and years down the road.

I picked up Corpse Bride for 6 bucks, the Bourne Movies for 10 bucks, Planet Earth for 45, etc. At this rate I'll have about 100-150 HIGH DEFINITION movies in my library at a fraction of the cost of Blu Ray...AND....I'll still be able to watch them 5 years down the road.

combo playes are nice but probably won't be made for much longer if there is only one format.

Samsung and LG both have standalone players that play both bluray and hd-dvd. They run about 800 bucks but with coupons you can get one from best buy for around 600. I was going to buy the Samsung one this Christmas but after reading about some of the bugs it has and that Samsung is releasing one in the fall that is profile 2.0 compliant, I decided to wait and bought a ps3. I wouldnt be surprised if Toshiba doesnt release one in the fall too.

I think many are looking for some kind of closure from the horses mouth, including yours truly.

The Samsung UP5500 comes out in May and its going to be less than the 5000. If it works well, I may sell both my stand alones and go with that one.....helps me save 1 less dvd player.

I hope people keep on dumping so we can pick up these great movies for cheap.

Sure they will, look at how long Beta/VHS and VHS/DVD combos were produced. Granted VHS and Beta last longer than HD DVD has, but there are companies that will release combo players.

I disagree with that. Millions of people bought HD-DVDs. Most wont be willing to throw away and rebuy discs on Bluray. I doubt that Samsung or Toshiba would leave those customers out in the cold. Samsung has already announced they plan to release two more combo players this year. Even if they dont, I would just buy the one they already have out.

I think combos will be around for a few years, but not forever.

Divx for example, try to find a Divx player. Not the Divx of today, the original rival DVD format that Circuit City pushed. It had Disney, Fox and other studios behind it before they went DVD. I remember the day Fox signed on to go DVD to this day.

Thats what I'm waiting for too. I realized I dont need profile 2.0 because I rarely watch web related content on a DVD. Come may I will probably sell my ps3 and use that to buy the 5500.
