Damn. I guess we won't see any more new releases after March.

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Then you are mistaking what an "s-cable" is, and just don't understand what the different types of inputs are very well.
If you have an HD capable set, it will have at least 1 HDMI, DVI, or Component video input. I haven't heard of any HDTV set released in the last 2-3 years that didn't have at least 1 HDMI input.
What is the model number?
I bougt this tv a couple of years ago and was looking to spend as little as possible while still getting something that was hd. It's a tube, flat screen, 35 inch hd.
And you're right, there is a Component video input, but unfortunatley my cable box is hooked up to that so I wasn't even thinking about that input. Other than that, there are 2 coaxil imputs (I think thats what it's called...red, yellow, white) and an s-video.
I've come to the realization that I bought a piece of crap tv, but am completely frustrated that I wasn't told that this thing would not be able to support any type of technology. The HD picture is great, but if I can't hook up even a progressive scan dvd player to it, what's the use?
I was talking to some guys at Circuit City today and they told me there was an adapter that could bring the hdmi cable through the s-video imput, unfortunatley it would only be for video (ie, no audio). For audio, I'd have to run it through another system (like one you would for surround sound or whatever, just not the tv).
Anyway, it's looking like I'd have to spend a couple of hundred dollars (minimum) just to get the damn progressive scan dvd player (which cost 75 bucks) to play near it's capabilities and that ticks me off to no end. Is this true, or is there some easeir fix?
Thanks.Comment

It's kinda ironic that Walmart, who sells anything and everything, drove the final nail in the coffin.
Looking forward to cheap movies on my "dead" player. Gonna try and turn it on after midnight to see if it still works.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
I guess I could, but I'm concerned about how much money I'm starting to spend to get a 70 dollar dvd player to work on a 550 dollar tv. At some point, I feel i'm going to be spending more in "connections" than my actual pieces of equipment.Comment

My gut feeling is the opposite of yours- its not a huge market, but its still a market nevertheless and I don't think they'll incur a huge cost from making dual-format players.Last edited by Spectre; 02-18-2008, 10:57 PM.

That would be a very crappy move on Toshiba's part. The fact is that there are still a ton of people with HD-DVD movies that want to be able to play their movies.

In terms of cables, I cant imagine they would be very expensive if you pick them up from that same website since they have HDMI cables pretty cheap there all the time.Comment

Well, not only are you buying it for your current equipment, but your future equipment also. Unless you are planning on getting a new TV anytime soon, it would be a good investment. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

I still believe that we will see dual players coming till the end of the year from Samsung. If not, I will eat crow for making this statement.Comment

Re: Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread
Think about it this way. If Samsung and LG are the only CE's left to produce HD DVD players through a combo format, and the HD DVD players have started to dry up in stores........they would be foolish not to capitalize + they can get HD DVD supporters easier in the game now that they also can have a blu-ray player that does both imo.Comment

It's not like there are a few hundred folks out there with HD DVD libraries..there are a LOT of folks who chose Red as their Hi Def format and I'm sure the manufacturers know that..enough to at least warrant a combo player to help ease the transition for folks who are now forced to go to Blu Ray for their Hi Def movies.AUBURN TIGERS
