If you reset it without their password you're screwed. You need to have the other person remove the phone from their iCloud account and then you can do whatever you want with it.

Unfortunately I did that. Factory reset while still logged in.

So now I just have to wait a few weeks to get that person over to log in.

He needs to log on to his iCloud account and remove the device entirely from his account as well so this doesn’t happen in the future.

By that you mean log into the account on the phone I have? Because I remember seeing an option in the menu to sign out of the account and turn off the find my phone stuff, but that did require a password.

He needs to log in to iCloud.com from a browser and remove the device from there.

I've never owned an Apple product before, but recently got someones old phone since they were upgrading(they kept their old phone when going to a new plan with a new phone). I don't have any intention of buying any kind of plan for the phone (I know these types of things will be expensive), but still want to see if I can just use it simply as an extra device, just for apps(so basically using it like an Ipod Touch), as a camera and so on because it's actually better than my current phone, though it's not unlocked so I can't just get whatever plan I want.


If anyone wants to comment on any of the above, feel free, but the main thing I'm trying to figure out is if I can just factory reset the device? With no plan or anything on the phone, can I just use it all fine if the entire phone gets reset? Or would it be wiser to just delete all the things on the phone(apps,pics,videos,music etc.) manually and in a way reset it myself?


I think the phone might still have their apple account on it, which I don't know the passcode, which is partially why I'm thinking of just factory resetting it(I believe in recovery mode you can bypass all this), though if this isn't wise given that this phone isn't unlocked, doesn't have a plan and I won't be getting one, I'll just get them to log in and remove their account and any security stuff on it.

You can factory reset your iPhone,but after you do that, there's still data that can be recovered ,This is a data age,It's hard to control the deleted data unless you can crush them completely .

Got my preorder in for XS Max as well...256GB. Leather case will be here Wednesday and the phone will be here Friday. Don’t see any screen protectors on Amazon yet.

Once it arrives and is set up, I’ll be selling my now OG X.

Likely going to upgrade from my series 3, gps only to a series 4 gps only. Not right out of the gate though. I’ll build my “apple savings” back up then get it!

Why are all AT&T stores different LOL. I went to three different ones to pre order the max and each gives you different song and dance.

Two says can't trade in old iphone 7 plus 256gb for credit towards new ones, third store had no problems doing it and even putting it towards tax on new ones etc.

SIGH LOL.

Ordered the iPhone XS Max 256gb. It's been 2 full years of the 7 plus, now time for new ones.

I'm going strong with the 7 Plus.

I just can't get myself to spend this much.

I hope I can get another 1-2 years out of this phone before forking over the premium on the new phones.
