Something that big though? Sonar would have to pick that up right

There are things down in the ocean that no one has ever seen. People didn't even know that collosal and giant squid were real until a few dead one's washed up.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

The monster was as big or bigger than those NYC skyrises. Giant squid, while huge, aren't really that big.

Now if we suddenly discovered a new whale species or something, I'd see that point.

Yeah I know that but the oceans are huge, I'm sure it would be possible for something enormous to hide.

Its a monster film - there is going to be some obvious suspension of belief.

Didn't Abrams say it was asleep at the bottom of the ocean for thousands of years or something?

Yeah but he didn't say how it changed sizes and tiptoed through central park.

So I stayed out of this thread, and did not look at any info for the movie. Saw it last night and enjoyed it. Pretty tripped out. Now I need to read up on all of the theories. LOL

Still though, I'd simply like to know the background story.

I did the same thing. Made the movie much more enjoyable for me.

My girlfriend thinks that the "exploding" chest of the soldier was another little monster that came out of him.

That's why everyone was so scared when they found out that Marleena was bitten.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I didn't see anything pop out of her when it happened. I just thought they wanted to contain her so her flying little giblets didn't land on any open wounds which were all over.

I figure with all the open wounds being attended too in there, the last thing anyone wants is her blood or infected pieces in some poor sucker lying around.
