I got DirecTV and the newest HD DVR about 3 weeks ago. I'm in heaven. The only issue I have is that I can't get locals. I love DTV and wish I would have been able to get it sooner. I have about every channel available.

Re: 20-40 HD Channels BY Sept 16th (DTV)

I enjoy Directv, my only complaint is the rediculous price they charge for their HD-DVR especially considering its only a lease and your not actually buying it, so in that regard Im paying 200-300 just for the privelage of using their DVR and I dont like that idea. Supposendly you can get it cheap if you are a loyal customer but Ive only been with them for 4 months so Im apparently not that valued as of yet so they wont do anything above knocking it down to 199.99. Strange that I can get it for free through Comcast here and through Dish Network yet Directv charges hundreds of dollars, hopefully they come down in price at some point.

On a side note, for anyone who had the Sunday Ticket be careful and watch your bill, for some reason they were going to charge me 23.55 for 4 months towards the Sunday Ticket even though I had already paid it off in full, something screwy with their system I presume but I had to spend an eternity on the phone last night to get it fixed, so just a heads up.

My brother hasn't been able to get them to budge on an HD-DVR lower than 299. Anyone have more tips/tricks to do so? We've been with DirecTV for a couple of years, now...

keep calling and complain that dish network is offering it to you for free.. when they say no, call back and talk to someone different. cont as many times as you need to get what you want.

we upgraded to the hd stuff in septemeber. we got the hd dvr, another hd receiver and instalation for free. when the jaggoff left the box for the dish and cables he cut in the yard we called and got the hd channels for free for a year. so we had it free right? nope, they still charged us even though they said it was free and issued 300 bones worth of credits on our account. we then got starz and hbo for free for 6 months (we payed for those anyway) but was nice to get them for free for a bit.. also was able to get next years NFL Ticket HD for free. we have to pay for the actual NFL package but not the additional for HD..

these idiots will do what ya want to get ya off the phone. when that happens mistakes are always made. just make sure you get the persons name and empolyee number so when you call back to complain about them you can give them that employee number to see you are not lying..

Have you ever gotten the same service rep after calling again and again? Do you wait like five minutes? He's convinced that this doesn't work.

Re: 20-40 HD Channels BY Sept 16th (DTV)

I dont know, Ive called and been pretty angry with them, and for good reason, and they havent done anything at all besides knock 100.00 off the price of the HD-DVR. When they installed it they damaged the siding on the house when they drilled to run the cable, they left me to activate everything because he was in a hurry, had me actually hook up my own STB while he went in the other room to hook up the other one and then in the end he stumbled around my room and fell on my bed damaging one of my McFarlane figures that was there out of the way, or so I thought. When I called they came and fixed the siding but didnt offer any rebates or refunds and basically blamed it on Ironwood who did the install, it was a complete disaster.

Then last night they had me on the phone for 1-2 hours while trying to fix my account when all I wanted to do was downgrade from the Sunday Ticket promo to Choice Xtra, it wanted to charge me for Sunday Ticket all over again, the first rep issued me a credit, which come to find out wasnt even enough to cover the charge then they forgot to cancel it altogether so if it wasnt for me calling back about something else I would have been charged 3 more times for Sunday Ticket. So now next year I have to call and hope the notes are still active so I can get Sunday Ticket at the early renewel price since the only way they could fix their screwup was to completely take it off my account, this entire debacle with Directv has been a nightmare.

Lastly, has anyone tried ordering PPV without having a phone line hooked up to the box? I ordered the last UFC PPV and it was never billed to me and the rep mentioned that if you order PPV when its not hooked to a phone line then it all gets put on your bill at once when you turn in your access card, but Im not sure if thats actually the case since it would take a lot of work if they went over a few years worth of PPV orders to see if I paid for them.

Interesting stuff. All I know is that $300 bucks for an HD-DVR that I'm not even technically "owning" is ridiculous. I'll be happy with even $150 and free installation. For a college student, anything else is ridiculous.

DTV has switched over the old HD channels to MPEG-4. I can finally get ESPN2HD when there are leaves on the trees.

Are the supposed to come in clearer? I just switched to Direct TV (from Cox Cable)Saturday and couldn't pick up several channels including all of the ESPN's, local ABC & Fox, and A&E HD among others. I still picked up a good 80% of the HDs but after several phone calls with perplexed Direct TV employees, the tech they sent over discovered that by eliminating 720P as part of the resolution scan process, I was able to pick them all up. I saw Seth Rogen on Leno last night and the picture was great, even though Leno is supposed to be broadcast in 720P. Is the 720P broadcast being "upconverted"? My native TV resolution is 1080i by the way, and that's the resolution setting that appears on my receiver for all HD channels.

Are we gonna get FOX News in HD and WGN on the basic package? Also the CBS Evening News went HD just this week.

Cox Cable actually has about 35 HD channels including the CW, which DirectTV doesn't have in HD-No Smallville in HD this year, unless something changes. But I agree, DirectTV is a better buy, has a better interface, and DVR playback is much smoother.

That is your market, not DTV as a whole. I have both CW and the old UPN in HD.

There will be more channels coming within 2 weeks, don't know what they are yet though.

My only complaint about DirecTV is that I own the HD DVR plus (HR20 reciever?) and there seems to be no way to back up programs to my computer. DirecTV support says it can be a copywrite issue, but I know other companies allow it (Tivo, Dish Network through a USB).

Anyone ever transferred anything from their DirecTV DVR to their computer hard drive?
