    I'd love to know what they will be, DTV never did get ABC Family in HD, it was supposed to come with Disney HD.

      Woot! Looking forward to checking these out. I was wondering why I had a black screen this AM for ESPN.

          I hear ESPNU will be going HD today. Will DTV get it today or not?

            No news yet. Depends on what ESPN wants for it and if DTV already hasa a contract in place. I would think it would be out by next week.

              DIRECTV and TiVo to Launch New HD DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Service

              EL SEGUNDO and ALVISO, Calif., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/

              DIRECTV, Inc. (NASDAQTV) , the nation's leading satellite television service provider, and TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ:TIVO) , the creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders (DVR), announced today that they have extended their current agreement, which includes the development, marketing and distribution of a new HD DIRECTV DVR featuring the TiVo(R) service, as well as the extension of mutual intellectual property arrangements.

              Under the terms of the non-exclusive arrangement, DIRECTV and TiVo will work together to develop a version of the TiVo(R) service for DIRECTV's broadband-enabled HD DVR platform. The product will support the latest TiVo and DIRECTV features and services, including TiVo's Universal Swivel Search and TiVo KidZone. TiVo will develop the new HD DVR for an expected launch in the second half of 2009.

              DIRECTV will continue to develop and offer its own portfolio of industry leading set top boxes as primary offerings to both new and existing customers. This new TiVo box will be offered as an alternative choice to those DIRECTV customers who would like to add TiVo to a full line up of DIRECTV services.

              "We have had a very successful history with DIRECTV. Together we brought the TiVo experience to millions of DIRECTV customers and now we look forward to launching a next generation product that uses TiVo's latest features to truly showcase DIRECTV's broad selection of high-definition programming -- all stitched together with the elegance of TiVo's renowned user experience," said Tom Rogers, TiVo's CEO and president. "This agreement demonstrates our continued embrace of mass distribution opportunities in cooperation with major multichannel operators who recognize the value of giving their customers a choice of compelling user experiences."

              Like prior products developed by TiVo and DIRECTV, the new HD offering will be marketed and sold by DIRECTV nationally to its entire customer base as part of its growing portfolio of brand name video offerings. Specific consumer pricing and packaging will be announced in conjunction with DIRECTV's launch of the product.

                    Damn right!

                    DTV's current HD DVR ain't a patch on the convenience and functionality of my old SD TiVo unit. A few of my pet peeves include:
                    1. No dual live tuners (something I really miss during football season);
                    2. no skipping forward or back in 15 min increments;
                    3. DTV's slow-mo function is a pain to use (TiVo had a button specifically for that purpose, the DTV unit requires the user to hold the play button down for a few seconds until it kicks in; there is also no frame by frame);
                    4. The program search function on DTV's unit allows for far less refining of search parameters.
                    For now I'm stuck with DTV's DVR, but I'll dump the damned thing in favor of a TiVo unit the day it hits the market.

                      I'm new to DirecTV. Just got set up when we bought our new house a couple of months ago. What's involved in "dumping" the old unit in favor of the new TiVo unit? Didn't I actually purchase this HD-DVR or am I leasing it? Who do I call to switch to the newer, better model?

                        To be honest I'm not entirely sure, but we have plenty of time to find out. The article says the TiVo units won't be available until the second half of 2009.

                          You'll just have to call and ask. And yes the Tivo units are wonderful, I was hoping they would go back with Tivo.

                            Not sure how the upgrade program might work but you are indeed leasing it and not buying it and thats my major annoyance with it and exactly why I dont have one yet.

                                The only reason DTV's HD DVR bugs me so much is because I know how much better it could be.
