Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2
I think it would be eating away with most people for sure. Even though I do not enjoy the plot-line... they do make it believable as possible with all that has occurred.NCAA Vets League: Arkansas Razorbacks (9-2, 6-1)

This show is barely a shell of what it was last season. Still very watchable, but it is a night and day contrast, imo.Comment

And how is that?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

How long do you have?
The show is still good, don't get me wrong. However, the characters are nowhere near as compelling as they were in it's 1st season. There have been more ridiculous plot devices and "soap opera-esque" crap in less than half of this season than there was all of last season. The Landry murder plot was incredibly dumb, although it has, for the most part, been handled fairly well. Half the time, it seems like the writers have no clue what to do with characters, so they just stick them in these asinine situations and have them pop up almost in cameos just so they can be a part of the show. Lyla comes immediately to mind here.
The best part about last season, imo, was how charming it was. The whole "small town" tight knit community thing shined through in spades, and for whatever reason, the magic just hasn't been there so far this season. The lack of actual football also irritates me. Not just in game footage, but practice, locker room, and even little conversations in Coach Taylor's office with players and assistant coaches seems to just not exist this season. Another great aspect was the interaction between Taylor and his wife. They had a lot of great scenes together and the way they handled things, including Julie, seemed like a pretty fresh portrayal of a family. It is just missing this season so far to me. Coach Taylor, at home, was portrayed as kind of a lovable clod who meant well but wouldn't grasp the point of things sometimes. Now he just seems like an unsympathetic arse, and to compound it, they show next to nothing of him coaching and teaching on the field, either. I loved his character last season, but he has become somewhat of a non-entity.
Most of the characters (the kids) seemingly don't even really interact with each other anymore. That goes back partially to what I said before, about various characters like Lyla and Street randomly popping up, as if to say "hey, remember me? Yeah I am still on the show." In the case of Street, though, I would consider it a good thing. He bogged down part of the first season with his storyline, and luckily, they have minimized his screen time.
As much as I dislike some of the things the writers and producers have changed for this year, I understand why they did it. The show barely made it to a second season, and they had to attempt to gain more viewers. I don't like how they seem to be pandering to women a lot more, though.Comment

I'm loving this season as much as the first but I do agree with you about characters randomly popping up. And some of the time seems to be messed up, it seems like Riggins has been gone for months but it was only like a couple of days to a week that he was actually missing.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2
Very good post, good points. Waverly is another example. What happened to her after Smash learned she had multiple personalities?
You're spot on. But I still dig the hell out of the show.

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2
Another thing I didn't mention in my last post: The show has somehow managed to almost make me dislike Matt Saracen, or at the very least be indifferent towards his character. He was arguably my favorite last season. He seemed like a real genuine nerdy kind of kid, and he has been out sorts this season. Either he doesn't get much screen time or is stuck in these little romantic subplots. The thing with the caregiver doesn't do much for me, but I can tolerate it. What I don't understand at all, though, is why they even bothered to introduce the other chick into the equation. Before she came onto the scene, you could clearly tell they were going in the direction of something happening between him and Carlotta or whatever her name is. Then he suddenly starts macking the new chick, and then drops her within 2 episodes. I fail to see the point of even having her on the show at all, unless it is to try and "get over" the fact that Saracen is now some playa. It just falls pretty flat for me.
I really miss the interaction between he and "Lance." I hope now with this murder thing being put to bed that they can get back to some semblance of what those two did together last year. By the way, is Landry even on the team anymore? He had one moment where he made a big play in a game, which was pretty ridiculous in itself, complete with the crowd chanting his name (as if they would have a clue who the hell he even was), and then suddenly he isn't even at practice or anything. Sloppy writing at its finest.Comment

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2
Well, there's a "Moses carrying the Ten Commandments from the mountain" moment.
Care to explain why you think it's better? Many of us may agree with you, but offer a bit more depth than your typical mud puddle, man.
Take care,

Re: Friday Night Lights Season 2
Fair enough, but is it not a stretch? Even if a lot of townsfolk knew him, it isn't like he had been a part of the football scene from 8 years old like all the other kids would have been. He plays in his first game and suddenly he is like the Roy Hobbs of football? Yeah, I can't buy that. It was a great moment and a tremendously eye-rolling one all at the same time.Comment
