I'm not sure if this was mentioned here but I urge everyone to get Seal's latest CD. It's a cover of old soul songs and he does a very good job on them. The only quibble I have with it is that at times he doesn't give nearly enough feeling to some of the material but overall it's well done.

Bump. Anybody seen John Legend live? He is going to be playing about 40 minutes away from me in July and I'm thinking about picking up some tickets.

Anybody have any recommendations (preferably albums and not comps) for these classics?
            Sam Cooke
            Ray Charles
            Marvin Gaye
            Aretha Franklin
            Al Green

I have one or two albums by each of em, but I am looking to expand.

Saw him w/ the Roots @ VCU the same year he put out beautiful people. It was a great show...

SOUL music IMO is what are parents listened to w/ Motown, and all of those great artists from Philly/Chicago/etc.

Today we've got neo-soul and R&B. It's actually real refreshing to have someone like Raheem DeVaughn doing his thing because I'm tired of all of the high-pitched whiney male singers, the B2Gays of the world.

Man...two artists I greatly miss are Maxwell and Sade. I never really knew about Sade until I met my wife (6 yrs ago); I had heard smooth operator a bunch, but never really pursued that artist. Since my wife listens to her a lot I've really come to enjoy her music...it embodies neo-soul music.

I'm only 27, and grew up in the 90s and I'm a big hip hop fan. I remember the 80s fairly well too....but the 70s soul era was the greatest.

Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
                    The Moments
                    Minnie Riperton
                    Angela Bofill
                    Phyllis Hyman
                    The Stylistics
                    The Temptations
                    Blue Magic
                    Stevie Wonder
                    Jackson 5

Man...I could go on and on! I would post a few jams if I could.

Oh man I can't wait for Maxwell's new joint. I missed the guy a lot. I don't buy CDs very often but i'll buy that one.

Anywho, I just stumbled onto Mario's cover/update of "Sexual Healing" pretty classy IMO.

Anyone hip to Minnie Riperton? Perfect Angel was probably her most successful album with songs like "Lovin You" and "Edge of a Dream" (and I like it a lot) but her first album, Come to My Garden is becoming one of my favorite albums ever!
