Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
Am I the only one who thought The Wire dragged in sections? I would put The Shield ahead of The Wire and Breaking Bad ahead of The Shield. But overall, I think we've been fortunate during this past decade to have such quality writing with these and the other aforementioned shows.Last edited by daflyboys; 06-11-2013, 09:42 AM.Comment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I think there are definitely "pushing the pieces" forward type of episodes and most well-written shows will have similar "lulls." I feel like the same type of writing happens in books where seemingly nothing/little happens, but its just enough to move the story forward, entrench the characters and their development, and add more logs to the pile that will be set on fire.

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
Apparently, you can't get much from this show if you doze through the first 4 episodes, that's what I did. The only chance I have to watch HBOgo is on Friday and Saturday nights after everyone has gone to bed. After a long work week and being an old man, I would just doze and catch what I thought was the gist of the plot. I actually watched the entire first season and started season 2 but kept wondering why there were so many holes in the plot and character development. I went back and started season 1 all over and, wow, it was like I was watching it for the first time, lol.
This show is so edgy and original for being a cop show. I still can't believe this show hadn't gotten the same exposure as other HBO shows have gotten.Comment

I started up season 1 again last night. Major Rawls is hilarious.

Spoilerin how he helped McNulty get through when Kima was shot.
What the writers really do well and I appreciate is that they do not spoon feed you the plot and are not patronizing to casual or jump-in-the middle viewers. I have noticed numerous happenings in later episodes that were set up in the earlier ones,Spoilerlike at the end of season 1 when you see McNulty beginning his new assignment on the boat, that was referenced from a conversation in the first episode.

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I'm avoiding reading any posts in this thread, since I'm only on season 1, but wanted to post in it to make it easier for me to find once I make it through.
After constant praise from people I know (more importantly, whose taste in TV shows I trust) and 2 prior failed attempts to make it through the first episode, I'm now 7 or 8 episodes in after watching it on a couple of flights and long drives. It's starting to get good and I'm really wondering where this show will go in the later seasons.
If I like it as much as everyone else does, this is a great way to bridge the gap while I wait for the last half of the final season of Breaking Bad. Although I just hope the supposed greatness of this show doesn't lessen my excitement for BB.Comment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I think people sometimes try too hard to compare the two which can take the fun out of watching them because people are constantly comparing them as they watch. It's fun to compare, but don't let it ruin Breaking Bad.Comment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I got HBO to start watching Game of Thrones because everyone seems to love it and the series is still going on. I figured I could play catch up before season 4.
I instead started watching The Wire and I am 5 episodes into season 1 and I absolutely love it.Comment
