Also, season five probably has the most depressingly realistic scene in the entire series, for me.

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I think just the change of scenery instead of continuation from Season 1 to Season 2 caught me off guard. I really liked the Frank Sobotka character. But I enjoy the core characters from Season 1 and 3 more.
On to season 4 I go...Comment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
Only thing I didn't like about season 5 was...
SpoilerI didn't like that Lester went along with McNulty's plan. Thought that was way out of character for him. And it probably could have benefited from a few more episodes like the rest of the seasons, but overall I still loved it.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

The scene with Marlo and the Security Guard is one of my top 5 favorite scenes in the series.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
Another amazing scene. Dookie don't click this spoiler, you haven't gotten to this point yet.
Spoiler
Pro Joe's death.
"I treated you like a son."
"I wasn't made to play the part"
Season ranks:
3
4
1
2
5
S5 was losing steam toward the end with
Spoiler
The fake serial killer and Omar becoming Batman. It had good potential though and is still very watchable.
Drawing a blank on what scene you're referencing. Which one?Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 01-09-2014, 05:33 PM.NFL - Vikings

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I just marathoned this over an 11 day period....very good series, but it falls under the "it's not the same if you watch it way after it airs". Don't get me wrong, GREAT series, but not GOAT like a lot of people say (cause The Wire did things that inspired events in the shows I watch now....main character deaths, plot twists, etc.)
A co-worker encouraged me to watch it, my thoughts on some things below that I mentioned to her (and I hate using spoiler tags for something thats been done for so long, but I'll do it anyway)
SpoilerI called Avon killing Stringer halfway through S1 (she told me that when I told her this "my jaw dropped, I'm glad I wasn't facing you". Also called D'Angelo dying, that one was so easy to see.
In regards to Season 5:
SpoilerHard to believe that Lester would go along with it, kinda lost me there. Still good, but not a great season. I did like the end, showing where people were headed....loved that Michael is the new Omar
And its funny to see some actors in this show....most people will remember them as characters from this show, but not me since I was so late to the game...I'll always think of them as:
SpoilerChalky White
Gale Boetticher
Dom from Entourage
Knox from Heroes
Awesome show, glad I finally watched itComment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
To people not believing that Lester would go along with McNutty's plan, I disagree entirely that it's out of character for him. It was alluded to as far back as season 1 that Lester was the original McNulty (which landed him in the pawn shop unit). He treads lightly easing his way back into real police work after getting detailed sure, but over time his confidence comes back and we see his inner-McNulty shine (challenging authority, subpoenaing politicians before an election being small examples). Now couple Lester's natural disposition with the fact that his obsession with Marlo paralleled McNutty's with Stringer and I think it's definitely plausible that he'd go along with Jimmy's plan.Comment

Re: Ok im late I know The Wire
I been waiting to name a new dog after a wire character. Getting a Belgium Malinois puppy next week! It'll be my parents dog too but they keep saying no to all the names lol. Finally they agreed with Bodie.
Real Conversation:
"Omar? Like Omar Gadaffi?"
"No Ma, Omar Little, the baddest gay stickup gangsta in West Baltimore"
"No, its ok he's gangsta but i don't want gay, i want puppies"
Next dog will be a cop for sure. Herc, Prez or McNulty.Comment

I still disagree.
Lester got put in the pawn shop unit because he insisted on doing the job by the book instead of covering up dirt for the deptuty ops. That's completely different than what he did with McNulty, and the type of stuff McNulty pulled throughout the show.
Also, throughout the show Lester disapproved of a lot of the stuff McNulty did, especially going behind Daniel's back to go after Stringer. And he didn't share McNulty's obsession for the job, remember the scene when he lectures McNulty about getting a life and finding something outside the job to make him happy. He also wasn't the loose cannon McNulty is. I didn't buy him suddenly being willing to do something that could get him thrown in jail.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

The fact that this series has been off the air for almost 6 years and is still generating regular convo and gaining new fans shows how great this show was.#RespectTheCultureComment
