If I had to pick one it'd be Bubbles.
Visiting this thread makes me want to watch the series again.

If you liked "The Wire" check out "The Corner". Also by Simon and set in Baltimore focusing on a true story of the life and family of a heroin addict. Also has some of the same actors. It's a short series, only six episodes.

Snoop is in my Top Five of Wire characters. For those that don't know she was discovered by the actor that played Omar and debuted in season 3.

She received high praise from legendary writer Stephen King who described the character Snoop as "perhaps the most terrifying female villain to ever appear in a television series."

      I agree.

So is DirectTVs' show of The Wire in order? I have been slowly watching the show over this entire year(watched season 1 real fast, but have slacked on season 2). I am getting direct TV and was looking at the Ch. 101 programming list and I freaked out when I saw The Wire, then I freak out even more once I see that they are about 2 shows behind where I last watched.

You all thought you were behind??! I JUST found out about and flew through the series. I already want to watch it again. Best drama ever. Amazing, amazing show. When you stand back and look at it in its entirety... just... wow.

I have a hard time choosing a favorite character. I had a soft spot for String and was cheering for him the whole time. He was easily my favorite in the beginning. He changed near the end though. Marlo who I loved to hate at first became a guy I just loved. Over time, I realized he's everything I thought and wanted Stringer to be.

I seriously can't choose a favorite. The acting was so good. Bubs and Omar easily had the most charisma and were probably fan favorites as a result.

I feel like I have a lot to say about this show, but am so behind since you all have seen it multiple times.

I know what you mean, I enjoyed the show so much this summer when I watched it. I watched all 7 seasons of The Shield over the past couple months and I have a hard time decided which show I liked better. If you haven't seen The Shield, it's a great show to transition to after The Wire.

I've been wanting to check out the Shield for quite awhile now, but haven't gotten around to it.

I also got into The Wire over the summer and got through all of it really quick and easy. Now it has become maybe my favorite series ever, so I will give The Shield a shot sometime in the near future.

I think I'm going to pick up the box set of all the seasons of "The Wire" around Christmas. It's just one of those shows that was so gripping in its entirety, and is worth watching multiple times.

It is awesome ! Don't watch it around kids though because it is graphic, lots of cursing and sexual acts.

Glad you're in the Marlo camp with me, but you're right, there are too many characters.

I had been thinking about this show in terms of an aspiring writer and when you look at it as a whole, in the, what 70 episodes or so they were able to almost fully develop at least 20+ characters.

I'd stay away from this thread (like I did) since it's littered with spoilers. I watched the entire series spoiler free and it was worth it. I wanna go through it again, but I know it won't be as good as the first time since I know what is going to happen.

Every man's gotta have a code.... sums up the series perfectly. We were lucky enough to witness each character live and die by theirs, and it was amazing. Omar, Marlo, McNulty, Avon, String, Clay, Carcetti, Herc, Bunny, Boadie, Bubs, Daniels, Prez, and so many more... just think of all of their "codes" and how their codes impacted one another in this small environment. I could keep going, but just color me impressed.

I hate to give out any guarantees, but every person I introduced this show to has become their favorite show and I can guarantee that you'll love it at least.

I have watched this serious 4 times already and has no got old once.

I still remember when I got HBO during the Sopranos season 3, or it was 4 maybe. And that Summer I seen the preview for the first season of the Wire, and I was intrigued. I just thought at first "Oh, a cop show, cool." and I found myself hooked into a show unlike I've ever been hooked in my life, or have been since. It's hard to describe the layers of emotion the Wire draws out of you as a person. It really hits on so many different levels. As just a cop show? Yes. As just a politics show? Yes. As just a show with great acting? Yes. As just a show with great characters? Yes. As a show unafraid to explore different social commentaries and aspects of the real world, set in a wonderful backdrop of politics and crime? Oh yes.

It is quite simply, the single greatest drama and achievement in television history. The most layered show ever created.

Seriously, every show or miniseries HBO puts out there is worth watching. All of them are pretty damn good. But, "The Wire" for me was head and shoulders above everything else. Sure, Entourage, Deadwood, and the Sopranos are up there as well, but "The Wire" was just an incredible achievement in TV history. Amazing from start to finish, in every episode and every season.

P.S. Omar was my favorite character in the show.
