Never watched, heard and read about how great the series was.

Just got done season 1. Damn man... You know how when you binge watch a series you get that attachment to the story and characters. Themes start popping up in your own life and stuff. Gripping.

Can't wait for season 2. So I guess characters are carried over but season 1's story is pretty much done with?

Not at all. The stuff that was on there is not much of a focus in S2 like it was in S1 but everything for the most part carries over pretty seemlessly.

The series sort of works as a whole arc across all the seasons, so stay with it even if there are parts you don't particularly care for.

S2 always throws off 1st time viewers. Best I can tell you is enjoy the parts you enjoy and know that it'll come come full circle later.

Haha, yeah after watching the first episode, most everyone is still hanging around. Just not so much together, but I'm sure they'll all cross paths. Just moving on to another corrupt part of Baltimore.

I thought S1 started off a bit slow, I guess it was a new series and it takes time. I already feel comfortable with S2 because I know what the show is really about and the returning characters I'm familiar with.

I really like the first few episodes of season 2. What's interesting is how a very subtle throw-away scene in Season 1 points to how season 2 will start - I can't recall which episode, but early on, when Bunk and McNulty are chatting in the office, and McNulty basically says his worst possible outcome would be getting put on the boat, and then of course that's where he ends up after the fallout...Also, Freamon advises McNulty at some point to tell the brass the exact opposite of where he doesn't want to end up if/when he gets busted down, because wherever you say you would hate the most is where they put you (hence, Freamon ends up a desk-jockey in pawn shop detail).

Also, I like how McNulty - when properly inspired - is an amazing detective. Like how he spends all his free time tracing that body with the bay's current charts and such just to stick his old boss with the homicide. And the best part is they know it was him. Classic.

McNulty is an amazing detective, but when he's in that mode he completely ****s on everything else in his life.

Couple episodes in to S3. Read that a lot of people didn't get in to S2, but I really enjoyed it. I legitimately felt bad for what happened to Sobotka in the end, even if he was messing with the wrong people for the right reasons.

But I love how S3 is right back in to it just like S1.

Every character is so good. Gotta roll with Freamon as my favorite.

Every season was great, even season 2. But wait until you get to season 4, which is the best or second best season of television that has ever been produced (breaking bad season 5 obviously is the other)
Season 4 of the wire was so good that I burned through that in 2 days.

Yeah I read about that on Grantland. May not be as exciting as the material in The Wire, but by now I trust him to make it appear as exciting.

I definitely wanna check out his previous works.

Personally, I think David Simon is a bit of a blowhard and a prick, and I think "The Wire" is pretty much the only thing he's done that is worthwhile. "The Corner" was completely un-watchable, unless you're into 6 hours of crackheads and wailing misery. "Homicide" was great, but it's not clear to me how much of that was him vs. his collaborators (Tom Fontana, etc.). "Generation Kill" - meh. "Treme" was just boring to me. And because I found it boring, David Simon proclaimed the problem was me....

I might give it a shot, but to me, I feel like David Simon just gets to do whatever he wants now, and if that's repackage his political POV into a mini-series (okay, it's an adaptation of a book, but apparently it was pretty much all re-written) and foist it on a fawning public, then that's what he's going to do. Either way, I'm not blocking off time to watch it or anything....
