50 Cents' G-Unit mixtapes > 50's album. He has a lot of bangers on his mixtapes and they get more replay from me.#RespectTheCulture -
Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
nothing any of G-Unit has ever done or ever will do album wise will equal the mixtapes. Especially back when they were mostly jacking the popular beats of the moment.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
If ya'll are familiar (and I know you are) with a rapper name Coolio, you will know that this dude (like 50 Cent) was at the height of hip-hop. He had a plethora of number 1 hits, major air-play and a ma'****in grammy award!
Who gives Coolio respect these days? Not a got-damn soul is the answer.
When will the day come when we laugh at ourselves for swearing by 50 or Kanye or Weezy's music, when really they were all a bunch of Coolio's... catering to our guilty pleasures in the present time, but force us to the realization that they are unsubstantial artists?
You comparing one of the most unauthentic, fake crossover rapper to some of the "realest" rappers in the game.
Like their music or not (Wayne, 50, Kayne) are some the best, most talented rappers ever.
Other than that lame Dangerous Minds song from the movie, what song has Coolio done? Was anyone talking about his lyrics, flow, style, etc. Nothing. Was he even in the Source back then? Don't know, cause nobody was checking on him other than some suburban white girls!!!Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
This is a joke right? Coolio NEVER got respect back then when he got a Grammy.

unauthentic crossovers... you can say the same about Yeezy singing on his vocoder, and Wayne's sorry excuse for rock music.
50... can't say much more than he's purely a hook writer. He was groomed to be a hook writer by Jam Master Jay, and that's honestly all they cared about developing with him. It gets ya commercial success, yes... but is he a good rapper? No.
Other songs of Coolio? Fantastic Voyage (#2), 1,2,3,4 ~Sumthin New~ (#5), C U When You Get There (#12)...
oh and...
Glad you know more than me about rap artists! pffft.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Coolio was an opportunistic rapper. He was West Coast but basically rode the coattails of NWA's immergence and got sandwiched in between Dre/Snoop/Pac.
He wasn't that West Coast gangsta rap despite trying to look the part. You can't take away his accomplishments but real rappers didn't respect him like they did/do 50.

A rappers' respect is a touchy thing... I think a rappers' respect was worth way more back in the day. Wayne is hooked up with Soulja Boy for instance. Respect the kid's commercialism ability... but don't respect his rap ability, because he has none. He's even worse than Coolio.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

I hear ya bro, but I am in no way arguing that Coolio should have been respected. Dude was an ***-hat rapper, but I'm just showing yall that he WAS getting props and play, respect or no respect.

Any sorry *** rapper could get play back in the day just as they are now(although not as much)Hell I remember the rapper Skee-Lo was getting BIG play for minute all because the dude wanted to be taller.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Honestly, I don't see how a non-***** could dislike the first wave of G Unit albums (GRoDT, Cashville, Beg for Mercy, Documentary, and Banks' album). Sure they were about as deep as a puddle, but they have the best beats around, great hooks, and most display a high level of rapping.
They aren't Illmatic, but I've never heard anyone complain about putting one on.
Kanye just has some enjoyable albums (aside from Graduation).Comment

In my opinion, Coolio lost a lot of credibility when he left W.C. and the M.A.A.D. Circle in the first place. He was nice and rapped well with that group being a good complementary emcee to Dub-C and should've never left them as soon as he did.

REAL easy to say that now when that's what he's come down to right now. But to say that they groomed him to basically be another Timbaland is completely false.
Lmao!!!
Well atleast he rythmed and made senseComment
