Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Anybody been hearing this Joe Budden vs Method Man beef? I've been out of the loop for a minute, but apparently the Vibe Brackets of the Best Rapper Ever have aggravated Joe as he picked up a 32 seed going against a 1 seed (Rakim) while there were tons of other dudes on there like Plies (lol!), 50 Cent (Got a 7 seed!?), etc.

But he said that he'd "Cut that man's head off." They've been going back and forth on radio interviews...well that was last week anyway.

I think it's alright. Hopefully his next album can make up for the disappointment that was Terminate on Sight.

Well, in a way. I mean, GRoDT was such a great album it was going to be pretty hard to top it, or even equal it. I didn't see it getting as bad as ToS though.

I didnt think he would go from that to putting out crap like Terminate on Sight. I didnt see that coming, I didnt expect another GRODT but I didnt expect him to put out horrible music like he does now.

I don't know how ya'll are going to feel about what I have to say next, but this is what I believe...

If ya'll are familiar (and I know you are) with a rapper name Coolio, you will know that this dude (like 50 Cent) was at the height of hip-hop. He had a plethora of number 1 hits, major air-play and a ma'****in grammy award!

Who gives Coolio respect these days? Not a got-damn soul is the answer.

When will the day come when we laugh at ourselves for swearing by 50 or Kanye or Weezy's music, when really they were all a bunch of Coolio's... catering to our guilty pleasures in the present time, but force us to the realization that they are unsubstantial artists?

I never sweared by his music, I just don't think it's as good as it used to be. It really doesn't go much beyond that.

I didn't say YOU specifically did, but when a rapper's record sales are as high as 50's, I consider that "swearing by".

50 Cents' G-Unit mixtapes > 50's album. He has a lot of bangers on his mixtapes and they get more replay from me.

I don't doubt that at all. It's like that for a lot of rappers. I'm guessing it's due to control by the labels, but it seems like mixtapes generally go harder. The only person from G-Unit who's mixtapes I ever cared to get was Young Buck's.

I've never liked Weezy, and 50 is what he is... basically a shell for his formal self who is good for 1-2 bangers an album.

But Kanye? You really compare Kanye to Coolio? One, Kanye is a producer/rapper who will always get respect off of that. Two, Kanye was never really a "gangsta rapper" which allows him to do things like 808's without losing any "street cred" (since that's not his gimmick anyway, unlike 50). Third, the man makes good music. I love College Dropout and Graduation (two of my favorite albums), Late Registration was good, and I'm warming up to some tracks on 808's after awhile. I can't ever see Kanye being the next Coolio or me saying "Man, I can't believe I actually used to bump the College Dropout". We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

1-2-3-4 getcha woman on the floor!!... Sorry.

SMFH @ comparing Coolio to a man who's dropped two of the best albums of the 21st century. College Dropout and Later Registration alone topple anything in Coolio's catalog EASILY.

That crackhead can't breathe in the same room Kanye farts in.
