You can tell the moment he started drinking syrup, his voice changed completely and he started sounding like he wasn't even trying. I'm sure the money and/or him changing writers had something to do with it but once he started getting high off that stuff all the time his songs started to suffer.

Agreed on pretty much all counts, including "Drop the World" being the only recent Wayne song I can listen to.

I've always liked Wayne's mixtapes(one of my favorites was the mixtape he made called before the carter) more than his albums even though he's had some very good ones. Love drop the world but, the all the auto tune music he's trying to do needs to go.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

My initial impression of Past My Shades was that it was alright. Enjoyable. Nothing special. Then I heard it a few more times and started dissecting it. Now I feel like Past My Shades belongs to Lupe and Bobby Ray just provides the intro, setup verse and the chorus. Lupe's verse exemplifies the title of the song. It's the best verse Lupe has thrown down since The Cool (album, not song). His line talking about throwing out chains in a parade (not actually about chains or parades in the literal sense but I'll let you figure it out if you don't already know what he means because, after all, the best part of listening to Lupe is figuring his lyrics out) blew me the **** away, something that neither Shining Down nor I'm Beamin' were able to do.

Songs from Adventures that I vibe real hard to are Don't Let Me Fall, Magic, I See Ya. His flow in all three of these songs is contagious, or as he likes to say, venomous. I really feel Don't Let Me Fall because that's his "I made it" song and I've been listening to him for well over a year so to finally have Adventures drop and have a song like that to start it off is pretty heart warming. Magic is just a fun song you can't help but rock to. I See Ya is just plain sick. Especially that run he goes on when he inhales all loud and goes "Let me just get a second to reload" then proceeds to spit that venom.

Also, he got Hayley on Airplanes because he's a big Paramore fan. Hayley's also a big B.o.B fan, as seen on her adorable *** Twitter picture.

If I were to criticize one thing about Adventures or Bobby Ray in general, it's his formula of two verses and a simple hook and that's all. But maybe that's just me asking too much from being spoiled by Lupe who often has three verses in his songs.

I get to see Steppin' Laser for a second time tomorrow. Lupe for a seventh. So ready.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

On an All City Chess Club note, J. Cole has a song that is said to be his first single called "Who Dat?" On it, in the third verse, he directs some not so nice comments to an unacknowledged individual who may or may not be Drake.

Personally, I would love if he were talking about Drake. I can't stand all the nut riding he gets when he's not even that great. I mean, he's alright, better than most mainstream rappers, which is something to be proud of... I guess... But his music isn't appealing. Subject matter and substance is old and tired, IMO. And he, as well as the rest of Young Money, use that same stupid punchline formula that annoys the hell out of me. They say a line then just throw out a word that relates to that line without connecting it with the line. That's just lazy. "When I'm in the club, you know I bald; chemo." "Just keep coming off the top; asbestos" and my favorite "I see me with her; no Stevie Wonder"

Take that and then drop the beat when you say it and all of a sudden, it gets quoted on Facebook status updates and Tweets all across the land. Young Money heavily relays on dropping the beat to try and augment their mediocre punchlines. Listen to Bed Rock's instrumental. You would think you're listening to a 10 second song on repeat.

Hopefully Drake bites and this starts an all out war between Young Money and All City Chess Club. It's like the nerds vs popular kids who peak in high school and will never amount to anything in the future.

Some songs now, I cant' even get through the whole thing. I want him to go back to the Sqad up days when he was jus killing the mic. I'm talking about wayne before the dreads. When he gets out of jail, hope he comes back with that raw

That will never happen. Jmood is right once he started drinking that stuff his rap has gone done big time. Combine that with making more money, a huge fanbase, and him trying to venture into other avenues of music (the "rock" stuff is he trying to do) he will never go back to that. Most of his fans don't want that, because most people weren't a fan of his back in the hotboyz days.

You know your rap I must say. And I feel the same way although I never really think about it, like B.o.B's 2 verses and all....and I always think about those simple punchlines YM use that everyone seems to love.

And Who Dat is his single, they have been playing it a good bit this past week on the radio in NY but I don't like it(along with the rest of the songs on the radio) so I don't know if that is true about the third verse, but it sounds like I will have to give it a listen now...And I doubt Drake would bite because it doesn't seem like YM does much with disses...they just shrug them off and talk about them being haters because they don't make as much money and all. Nothing happened with Lupe's Yoga Flame either, although no one is even sure if that was a diss and I guess everyone doubts it was :S
