Jeezy's Trap Or Die 2 mixtape came out today. If you're into him, or southern rap music, then it is almost a must listen.
"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."

I find it odd how Lupe has songs like Daydreamin and The Instrumental that criticize the current state of rap but several years before that, he was rapping about the same things like in Boss Playa and Lupe the Killa. Not to mention in the second verse of Theme Music to a Drive By how he may or may have not illustrated that Chilly, his mentor, was teaching hin how to slang while he visited him in prison.

I think he found god is why...donno why he would change up his style so quick other than that. Might of just matured though. Hurts Me Soul makes me think that too, was influenced by rap that was all about violence and all...

This was probably asked earlier in the thread, but you guys have a favorite song off Wale's Attention Deficit?

Mine actually might be "Beautiful Bliss", damn catchy song.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

This is kind of interesting. "Nothin' On You" was originally for Lupe:

[vodpod id=Video.3563689&w=425&h=350&fv=configParams%3Dvid%253D514517%2526uri%253Dmgid%253Auma%253Avideo%253Amtv.com%253A514517] With "Nothin' On You" sitting at number 2 on the charts, producer Jim Jonsin tells 1515, that the Smeezingtons production was originally meant for Lupe Fiasco. As the Smeezingtons produced track, “Nothin’ On You” sits near the top of the charts, producer Jim Jonsin explains to 1515, that the record was meant for Lupe and that it was Jonsin’s convincing that got the record to his artist, Bobby Ray.

“I was actually working on a session in Chung King [Studios], and [Atlantic Records chairman] Craig Kallman called me during that session with that particular track, to work on it for Lupe Fiasco,” Jonsin told MTV News. “I told Craig, ‘I like the song a lot. It’s a smash and could be somebody’s single. But it’s not Lupe’s record. I need this record for B.o.B. Please give this record to B.o.B.’ I guess they went through whoever they went through, convinced whoever they needed to, and it got to B.o.B.”

Would the 'Nothing on you' success be bigger commercially than any of Lupe's single's released in the US?

I'm not from the US so i don't know how big Lupe "blew up" on the mainstream charts?

                            I think so.

Lupe has had his share of songs that have done decently on the charts like "Superstar", "Kick, Push", and maybe "Hip-hop Saved My Life" but even then I don't think any of those really blew up on the level "Nothin' On You" did.

Nothin' On You got Bobby Ray enough hype to make Adventures the #1 album in the country. The song isn't great compared to everything else he makes but it's catchy as hell and gets mad radio play.

The single was good enough that they actually pushed up the release of Bobby Ray's album, so yeah its doing pretty good I think.
