But a certain realness? What does that even mean? Everyone's reality is different, I wasn't there for any of their childhood's. Kendrick's from Compton, so what? Like Detroit is the greatest place. What places classify as being real? Is Kanye real? Drake? Who has this realness that you speak of? I'd say Snoop's pretty ****ing real, look at the music he makes. He dropped a *** **** reggae album, which I actually liked a lot more than I thought I would.

What I was trying to say is there's a difference between someone like 2Pac rapping about the things he does as opposed to someone like Kanye rapping about those same things.

I'm not literally saying that being from Detroit rather than Compton means anything. I meant that Kendrick was around bloods, crips, etc, while Sean was making abstinence raps. Kendrick's words are more believable because of that, whereas you wouldn't take Sean that seriously.

TBH, my favorite song of Doris is Guild. I really enjoyed Doris, although I do miss some of Earl's old style.

                Yeah, I miss the violence.

Guild was easily the worst song in my opinion, though.

I thought that was the worst one after my first listen.

I'm going to have to listen more obviously, but my first impression is that it's a pretty nice album. Sounds great and I like how compact it is in terms of song length.

Really wish 523 would have been more than an interlude.

BnG, how many times has Sean tried to rap about "being hood" especially since FF3?

Big Sean isn't the best representation of Detroit, but he does represents a part of his (and my) generation from the city.

I think it means more of how they carry themselves and how people see them. Big Sean wears goofy ****, he's really skinny, has a high pitched voice, etc. Even though he is from a really damn rough place, you would think by listening to his music he was more of a California weed-pop-rap kind of guy, especially recently. Kendrick on the other hand, has a weird voice, but there's a more apparent focus on lyricism in his work and his beat selection is a little bit weirder and a little bit more traditional.

That's how it is I think these days, its as much as how you present yourself and your music that makes people feel a certain way how hard "real" you are, not so much where you're from.

I really hope what's happened in the last week makes everyone start stepping their game up. Because I'd hate to see most of these dudes go back to dropping some half *** mess after bringing their A game all week.

Sucks that it took one verse(which wasn't even a diss either)to get it but I won't be complaining if we get everyone's best stuff going forward.

I still don't see how that videos of rappers when they were kids mean anything or proves how any one rapper is harder than the other. I've always thought that was stupid logic. For all we know...Big Sean could've witnessed three murders after that video shoot. Admittedly I don't know too much about either guys background but its hard to deduce who is "realer" than the other based off music let alone youtube videos. Nelly, T-Pain, Snoop, etc. make all tons of pop music but they are probably the tougher than 90% of rappers.
