Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Random Thoughts:
1. Having 3 "Great" Albums isn't a bad thing. Hell, how many artists you know RIGHT NOT can do even 2 "Great" Albums? Not that many.
2. I always knew that Em was AT LEAST on the same level as Jay lyrically after he did his thing on "Dead Wrong" and then once "Renegade" came out, it was basically who was going to be 1A/1B between the two at that particular time. I'm not the biggest Jay fan(respect the dude's music however)but usually whenever I hear people say he is overrated, they're usually the same folks that try to pump up dudes like Deep Moses or Natural Thoughts(random names I made up)or some dudes from the Underground stage and then try to hype them up as the greatest thing since Sliced Bread.
3. Recovery is Fuego and i'm glad I waited almost 10 years for this(I don't count the garbage that is Encore).
4. Nas also deserves to be mentioned up there but people do tend to overrate his "greatness" a tad just like folks do with Jay.#RespectTheCultureComment

1. The three great albums, the last of which dropped 7 years ago are irrelevant to how good he is now, aside from the fact that people overrate him for that reason.
2. Still talking about the past. Right now there are several underground artists making better music than Jay is. Will their careers ever match up to his? No, but again we are talking about the present.
3. Like you, I wish he never released encore.
4. I agree, but I think any one of his albums since Streets Disciple has been better than anything Jay has put out since The Black Album.
Speaking of, Jay got Killed by not only Nas, but Luda's verse was better too on 'I Do it For Hip Hop' Jays verse was hella weak.Comment

You can't discredit anything Jay has done in the past. I also think you're forgetting the fact he basically snapped his fingers and created an anthem for NY just like that. That has to amount to something IMO, if you want to talk about right now.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

I don't know if you guys are still talking about my original question but if so, I said "Greatest Alive" not "Greatest Right Now At This Very Moment".

And yea, I actually liked that song, especially for a single. Got tired of hearing it, but that's not his fault.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Jay can still spit some really sick lyrics. Like someone said before he has his club songs, his lyrical, his deep, etc. He can change styles and that what he does. Most rappers just spit alot of rhymes as quickly as they can but that's sometimes just a tad too ridiculous (Mos Def) Jay can still rap it's not like he forgot how to do it since his early days, he just doesn't so he can make some cheese.Comment

Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
For me (currently) it's:
1. Em (when he's not doing stupid gimmicky voices)
2. Jay (despite falling off a little he still has it)
3. Nas/Lupe (I thought Nas had fallen off but DR is so good he leaps back into contention and Lupe is just straight amazing)
.
.
.
.
.
.
Everyone else
Em's new album is straight fire and i am so happy with the quality of rap releases at the moment (Em, Distant Relatives, Bob and Lasers coming soon). I love this thread as it has given me some access to some guys i never would have heard had they not been mentioned in here.Comment

-The ******(hate calling it Untitled)was not that good and the only reason it got as much attention as it was because of the original name of it. Street's Disciple was Basura and HHID was decent but once again, people continue to underrate American Gangster which I thought was better than Black Album and is probably his 3rd or 4th best album(which isn't a bad thing).
-Luda having a better verse than Jay isn't a bad thing either considering that he is one of the top lyrical dudes out there so that's nothing to be ashamed of. Not the first time someone else's lyrics overshadowed Jay on a song.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I love Nas, but IMO his albums have very little replay value. I can listen to a lot of Illmatic but after that, it's only a select couple of tracks off his following albums that get PT.
And American Gangster was a great album. That was one that I didn't feel early on and picked it back up again some time later and really enjoyed it. I'm in love with Fallin' and it's probably in my top 10 (5 maybe) Jay-Z songs of all time.
I just loved the sound and theme of American Gangster. Although it wasn't as good as Reasonable Doubt, he still took it back to the street and switched it up by doing a concept album, basically detailing a hustlers life from beginning to end. I can't call Kingdom Come or BP3 garbage, but the only thing carrying those albums was Jay's skill and his top notch beats, because he's running out of stuff to talk about.Comment
