Put some music on my SD card for riding in my car, have almost 300 songs on it so been looking for that old school music and just have to say Rakim and Big Daddy Kane were so ahead of their time lyrically...dudes still stand the test of time.-= Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.=- Edward MurphyComment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Please explain to me what make Kendrick Lamar so great?
Im a long time Hip Hop Listener and in my book he cant compare to rappers like Guru,QTip...
The beats on his new album are dreadful. The song humble and its horrible annoying piano plonking 4 note riff/sample are dreadful and remind me of lil yatchy stuff(wanna say ^&*()
Lyrically hes OKAY but its more like a studio written rap and nothing poetic about it.
Yes I am hating But also more confused by the ppl saying hes soooo good?
hes not
hes just better than the rappers nowadays who don't do anything by the book anymoreBrand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Just read through the first couple pages of this thread and it made me realize how much more I enjoyed hip-hop (and music in general) 10 years ago. I guess I am getting old because I haven't really been into this new breed of hip-hop since post-MMLP2.
2007-2008 might be my favorite period of music, but nostalgia certainly factors in. I was 20-21 years old in that time period, so lots of fun. I loved summer of 2007 and of course when I think of that time period, I immediately think of We Takin Over from DJ Khaled. That was the summer anthem for my boys and I.Comment

The legends disagree with you as they've already christened the kid. The beats being garbage are your opinion, so I'd just say I disagree. Nothing about the Humble beat reminded me of a Lil Yachty song so I don't know how to respond to that.
Nothing you said is objective so how is anyone supposed to respond objectively? "Explain to me why the guy I think sucks is good". You're just gonna be in the vast minority on this one.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Atmosphere and Murs keep popping up in my head, but the last time I listened to Murs I got depressed because nothing comes close to 3:16.
And Atmosphere, to me, is like one of those bands you like really liked in high-school (or any specific time in your life) and once you move on from that point you lose that special connection/spark that made the music so good to you. There's a couple songs that I still love to put on repeat (Modern Man's Hustle), but overall I just lost my feelings for them.
Lately I've been running through the two good/great Mos Def albums, Outkast (as usual), Wu-Tang Clan, Run the Jewels, and Thundercat (not sure if he applies in here, but I'm not sure where to stick him - pause). Still need to check out the new Kendrick, but 2017 is seriously flooding me with music right now.
