Never really got into Stovegod until I heard him on Westside’s “Flygod is an awesome God 2” earlier this year

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
This sucks and to find out, on the last day of the year, that he died two months ago is the most DOOM and 2020 thing ever. Crazy as it may sound it almost takes the sting away; at the very least it helps.
RIP to one of the greatest.PS: You guys are great.

Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I was watching Rhythm and Flow with my family and was talking about how Los is a writer and never really got his solo stuff off (even though me and my little brother still regularly recite “these rappers acting like Lebron, how you playing with the Heat but scared to shoot dawg?” Because it’s dope). Long story short, I was trying to say there are people who can write but can’t deliver and people who can deliver but can’t write. My example was Diddy, no one thinks he’s a lyricist but if you walk up to someone and say “What y’all wanna do? Wanna be” and see if they can finish the line they more than likely will. This man tried to tell me Lil Kim’s verse was more iconic and more people would be able to finish “Wanna rumble with the bee huh?” Nonsense.
Anyway it got me thinking of more iconic lines, and I think a big one for me is “I sit back with this pack of zig zags and this bag”, I feel like that song was one of the first I ever cared to learn start to finish. So I’m starting off the year with a positive Eminem post, and don’t expect there to be anymore. Happy New Year.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

More Stove God appreciation:
I found GoodTime by Ransom because of him, and Ransom’s verse is dope. “****** singing but I keep something heavy to lift Luther, beat the case, a couple lawyer, two Jews like Smith-Schuster” and “Weight is off, blame the scale, Got ****** rolling in deep, but nah this ain’t Adele, stay the course, plain as Braille, faint of heart save your tales, I brought the SIG on stage like I was Dave Chappelle, and I aim it well”. Then Stove God kills as usual.
But also found him in the hidden features in the Roc Marci album on The Eye of Whorus, “I need my own holiday, Powder Day, bumped into the homie said he think the feds onto me, I told him he should worry bout some different **** honestly, like why your Jesus Piece look like Matthew McConaughey” [emoji23]. And “They shot him with his jewelry on and let him keep his necklace, I don’t blame him his big homie ain’t give him direction, and if the shepherd is a sucker then the sheep reflect it.” Nary a bad verse yet.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Going through DOOM's catalog, curious to see how people rank his albums. I'm done with the 1st 3 which I had never heard before, I'd rank them Op Doomsday as the best so far, not sure between Take Me to Your Leader and Vaudeville Villain. Surprisingly enough I actually like the skits with the chopped up tv and radio samples, and the rapping is great. It almost surprised me how easy the early albums are to listen to, I was afraid it'd be mad esoteric. Who You Think I Am is one of my favorites so far, just a perfect beat for a posse cut, Rhymes Like Dimes...I Wonder is the only one that really stood out to me on TMTYL, Never Dead on VV. Lots of dope beats but that doesn't surprise me.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

"Scared of a bunch of water? Get out the rain
Order a rapper for lunch, spit out the chain"
Shout out to 2k9, I was trying to figure out what soundtrack I remembered Sofa King from. I can only imagine how confused someone will be 20 years from now with no Adult Swim knowledge hearing all the Aqua Teen Hunger Force characters pop up.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Pretty much my same rankings, too. I might have to swap Madvillainy and Mm...Food every now and then, though.
My first exposure to MF Doom was on Demon Days. His rough monotone easily made an impression on me since I think all I was really listening to be 2005 was Outkast and I had just started following Mos Def's line of work. Operations Doomsday was great, but MM..Food was more palatable to me. Re-listening to his albums this Summer the skits really hit me because I had never really paid attention to the story-arc he created with them.
The Mouse and the Mask will always be hilarious to me.
